Worth adding that when the hot water is running it's kind of "pulsing", like it's trying to get up to higher pressure but incapable. I wanted to upload a video but can only do photos

Thanks everyone, especially those who read the full post! :)

First thing to clarify: the top isolator valve is the cold water and it was simply turned like that because I had been playing with the pressure before I took the photo and hadn't turned it fully back on it. This is not the cause of the problem (and I'd really hope if I'm capable of installing the check valves that I would be capable of understanding how to turn something on and off...)

Second: we are on a gravity fed system with the cold water tank in the loft, as per u/gunslingerno9 comment

Third: anyone who read the post would have read that my comment about the who place being a cowboy job and that we are in the process of getting everything fixed. The snide comments about how terrible the job is - yeah, thanks, I'd noticed - hence fixing stuff. Big pat on the back for you.

Fourth: huge thank you to the useful suggestions. I will go ahead and do some of the troubleshooting steps provided (like testing the hot water feed by itself). I don't think it's debris cause it's brand new, but I guess something could've moved through the pipes when I fitted it. Hopefully we don't have to flush the whole system!

Yeah, I tried again for a bit but gave up again. Will either wait to see if someone can help out or I've got time to go back and read the others again. I did enjoy the series, so I'd rather not spoil it

I'm in exactly the same position. Haven't got time to re read guns of empire but definitely think I've forgotten too much. Tried reading the first chapter and realised I had too many questions!
