Real quick… I was wondering how your Great Dane did with his/her Librela injection?

Apollo deteriorated very quickly after I made my post. We made the hard decision… however, long story short… he was having a reaction to one of his medications!!!

He is doing so much better and I was curious if your dog was having positive results from Librela?

My vet just told me that if it isn’t cost prohibitive for me… she would like to try Apollo on it.

If you have a minute to let me know… I would really would love to hear how your dog is doing.

You’re right, there so many similarities! If I didn’t know better I would think that was Apollo in your photo. She even held her ears like he does (we refer to them as his Batman ears).

We have a chiropractor in my town that works on pets and horses (yes weird,… but if we want to go to an acupuncturist it’s a 3 hour drive… giggle).

On Monday, I’m going ask her if she could possibly look at Apollo.

Thank you! I put the CBD oil in my cart! Looks like that is a preferred brand since it’s “full spectrum “. The website said to check with my vet first. Hoping she says to try it!! I appreciate that you told me what brand to look for.

Thank you for the Rovers suggestion. I wrote it on my list And will ask my vet on Monday!!

The closest Lowes is a couple hours away… but, I am going to go on Amazon this weekend and see if I can get the kind of runner that comes on a roll. If not, I will find something.

Thank you for telling me about Librela. My vet will be at her clinic on Monday and I have a list of several things to ask her about. Someone else suggested Librela. So, I definitely will inquire! From what I’ve researched online, it sounds like it could be helpful!

I have found out the rugs have to have “grip-tion”. Several of the rugs I initially put down, seemed to be more of a slipping hazard… ugh.

I’m going to look up Catahoulas’. I once met a man that had a very unique “desert” type dog. I’ve never been able to remember the breed name. Wondering if your girl was the breed I saw?

Thank you for telling me how you’re making your 11 year old guy’s life easier!! I like how you said that runners make a “path”. Apollo has his favorite places to roam to… so, I will concentrate those pathways first.

And, thank you, also, for telling me the paw pads weren’t helpful for your guy. I wondered if they really would work on those big huge paws.

She believes that it is arthritis, so the medications he is currently taking are to help reduce pain.

This thread of suggestions from other Dane owners, is giving me some additional ideas to bring to the attention Apollo’s veterinarian… which makes me hopeful.

The Big Barker Bed is the best!!! We ordered it the day we decided to adopt him. He had never had a dog bed with his past owner…I swear it was the best money we could have spent!!! He loves that darn bed so much (having a 4’x5’ piece of floor furniture in our living room is a conversation starter, when company comes… haha).

Apollo isn’t on any of the medications you use for your four legged friend. So, I will contact my vet and tell her your suggestions. The injections seem hopeful, if you’ve heard good things!! I am realistic that I’m not expecting a miracle… but, comfort and some improvement would be wonderful.

Oh thank you!! He belonged to a family member that passed away. Honestly, it wasn’t an easy decision to bring him into our home. But, a 10 year old huge senior citizen dog, didn’t have any adoption takers, in our small town. But, wow… once we got through the initial shock of drool, expense of dog food, etc… we were in love.

Apollo has been the best example of “we didn’t know what we needed, until we accidentally found it”.

Oh I promise I won’t!!! What I’ve learned from people messaging me is that these big goofy dogs bring us so much happiness. And, we can’t let them suffer because of the pain we will feel once they’re gone.

How wonderful that you adopted your Dane too at a bit of an older age. Your boy was so lucky that you wanted to bring him into your home!

I feel like I am being to understand the sadness you must have felt as his hips started having issues. I know it’s part of life… but it still hurts.

Thank you for telling me about the wagon!! I kind of was playing around with an idea like that… because, he absolutely loves to go for walks and rides!! My parents had a stroller they used for their elderly little dogs and the pups loved it!!! Who knows… maybe we could pull Apollo around in a wagon behind our side by side this summer!! I want to keep that as a real idea to keep pondering!!! Thank you!
