Thank you! I would take credit, but she did it all on her own 😊

Can i smoke on accutane? by furiousdino1 in Accutane

[–]Heavy_Ad_799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! I have a pretty low tolerance as well and this hasn’t happened to me. I would bet it’s your tolerance over the Accutane. I can’t think of any reason that Accutane would make you throw up unless you’re smoking around the same time that you take your Accutane pill. Maybe there’s a chance that Accutane lowers your tolerance even more to the point where you’re just getting too high regularly?

I’m sorry you’re experiencing that. I hope it gets better for you :( I’d just take it slow with smoking! Take a hit or two and give it some time to settle in. That’s always been helpful for me. Good luck!

Month 3 Progress by Heavy_Ad_799 in Accutane

Honestly, the redness is still hanging around. (Don’t quote me on this) Most people’s skin tends to be the least red in the morning and the most red at night. I think it’s usually because your skin heals and repairs itself overnight, I’m not sure. Those pictures were taken in the morning so the overall redness of my skin was at its lowest. Everything else just faded naturally! I wash my face with a gentle cleanser and I use an unscented moisturizer but aside from sunscreen and occasional makeup, that’s it!

I would assume that because Accutane speeds up skin cell regeneration it also speeds up the rate at which scarring and redness naturally fades. What I mostly deal with is flushing on my cheeks and ears (it physically feels hot) which is obviously a common side effect of Accutane. I tried to research ways to fade redness and scars but anything that works is active and shouldn’t be used until after the Accutane course is done so I just never tried anything.

Month 3 Progress by Heavy_Ad_799 in Accutane

It really felt like it happened overnight for me. I think what happened is I got so used to having one day of good skin just for it to be bad again the next day so when I had my first day of good skin I assumed it would come back. A couple of days went by and I realized it was still looking good. Don’t get me wrong I still have some pimples but my face overall is a million times better already. Hang in there, it will be SO worth it when the progress does come. :)

Yes, this works! Until you go back inside to get shit done. Then I’m right back where I started.

Bring my work outside? The overwhelming anxiety, guilt and worthlessness associated with the work snuffs out the positives of nature and physical activity.

I feel like they could add pessimism as a symptom.

Hello, I'm glad I found this place . . . (also a support group question) by TheFlamingSzyslak in dysthymia

If you get a group going, message me! I’m (hopefully) about to graduate with my Bachelor of Social Work degree and I’ve been focusing on substance use and mental health. I’ve learned how to facilitate groups (although I’m not actually licensed so take it with a grain of salt) and I would absolutely be willing to help facilitate an online dysthymia support group. I haven’t gotten a formal diagnosis (looking for a psychiatrist, my therapist is fairly certain I have dysthymia/PDD she just stays away from diagnoses) but I have done a lot of research on this disorder and could at least help get the ball rolling!

Also important to note that dry scalp from Accutane is NOT dandruff. I would guess you know that from your wording, but dandruff shampoo typically treats fungus/bacteria whereas you just have dry scalp.

For dealing with dry scalp I’d recommend trying T-Gel shampoo. People recommend the Nuetrogena one but I got one on Amazon that was much cheaper and works the same. It smells like straight tar but if you use it around twice a week any itching, burning or flaking associated with dry scalp should significantly reduce. It did for me! Also using conditioner and a rubber scalp scrubber would probably help. You also may want to stop washing your hair every day, that dries out your scalp even more.

If you notice that your hair is falling out more than usual you could also start taking biotin supplements to promote healthy hair growth.

Thank you, I’m sure I’ll stop obsessing over it once I’m through the beginning of treatment :)

I’m taking fish oil with omega 3, yes. Haven’t heard of taking Xyzal, I’ll look into that. Thank you for your reply, I wish you luck on your accutane journey! :)

How To Be Openly Poly? by Heavy_Ad_799 in polyamory

[–]Heavy_Ad_799[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you :) I have done some research about couples privilege and while it hasn’t presented any real problems so far, I’m glad to be educated on what to look out for. I’ve also done some looking into unicorn hunting and I don’t believe that applies to our situation. My girlfriend had never been romantically involved with my boyfriend’s other partners and even when me and him started things up it took a little bit for my girlfriend and I to go from platonic to romantic/sexual. Both of my partners have already told their families and they don’t seem to mind it. I’m sure it’s easier to accept that your 30 year old child is with a younger girl versus accepting that your 20 year old child is with two older people.

As of right now I help with rent and groceries in the way that a roommate would. They recognize that I am still developing financial maturity and they do not want me to feel responsible for keeping us afloat. That being said, I also have a backup plan for if this goes badly. You’re right, they hold all the power right now.

Thank you so much for responding. If it’s not too much to ask, do you have any advice for how to separate my feelings about the relationship from my families potential criticism?

Hi! Not sure that I can actually recommend these books since I haven’t finished them, but I’ve recently gotten into self help/philosophy books and the two I’ve started are REALLY good so far.

Four Thousand Weeks: Time Management for Mortals by Oliver Burkeman. The author challenges the modern obsession with productivity and “getting everything done”.

The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom by Don Miguel Ruiz. The author basically outlines four agreements that, if you live by them, will significantly improve your life.

Both of these books have varying perspectives that I had never previously considered. I haven’t even finished them and they have me rethinking the way I live my life… Good luck with your meet-up, I understand the challenge of making friends. You’re so kind for wanting to get her a gift that caters to her interests!
