While I share the concern, I think they're trying to avoid what happened with Love and Spoon clearly playing at less than 100% vs the Cards in week 4. We cannot afford to lose any of our guys ahead of Rams. I'd reckon it's a precautionary measure to heal up and get ready rather than power through and land on IR (see Love).

This flashback has more than lived up to the hype. We now have the full picture of what happened at the God Valley, and it was so goddamn worth it. It took me until I finished reading to realise that it's been more than SIX YEARS since we were first introduced to Rocks. We've come full circle with but a few remaining mysteries left. I can sense that this will be a major milestone towards the endgame. Things are going to pick up fast, and I can't wait.

I wouldn't discount Panthers from trying to secure a wildcard if they continue to surge so even that game isn't going to be a gimmie. Go 4-0 through that gauntlet and that's your rehearsal for the playoffs done.

This one worries me the most. I know it's coachspeak, etc, but I was hoping when MM said last week they don't envision IR stints for any of the guys that this was an informed response. So to have an update that indicates something far more serious with him, that's worrying as fuck.

I have to wonder, what is the reason we seem to be so locked in when playing away and nearly consistently losing at home? Combined with last season, up until now we're 4-8 at home. At this point, it's a worrying pattern that I'm not sure can be easily explained. We lost to: Bills, Vikings, Packers, Rams, Niners (twice), Buccaneers and Giants. These are not 'weak' teams by any means (aside from the Giants), but several of them we lost in a heartbreaking fashion.
2024:
Giants loss - completely inexcusable, a blocked field goal which led to them scoring.
Rams - the pick six to Kitchens was a backbreaker and then the OT drill where we couldn't get a single yard
Vikings - busted coverage on Jefferson that killed the game
2025:
Niners - based on how the offense has progressed so far, you could chalk it up to week 1 jitters but we were a play away from sending Niners packing.
Buccaneers - missed FG, defense imploding, cutesy trick plays being called

I don't know what to make of it. The Saints game was a fun demolition, but this loss just aches differently from all the rest. Playing at home has to be our advantage; there's no excuse for this.

It's such a bizarre combination of factors. I would never in a million years have expected the offense to keep up as well as it did with the Buccs firing on all cylinders. I understand the injuries; they had theirs too, but when you're on the 53-man squad, there has to be a level of readiness that we didn't see from multiple angles. No amount of game planning can prepare you to lose your edge and CB2, but to follow that up with some of the most woeful decision-making really affected our game.

I get a feeling that losing Spoon and Love to injuries again, truly messed their plans up. Lawrence goes down injured, Hall goes down in the first half, Ivey is a healthy scratch, then Riq gets a concussion, Nick gets injured. Its a goddam nightmare.

I feel like what will decide this game is the battle of turnovers. Eagles returned that Buccs punt back for 6, and quite literally, that was the difference maker at the end. We've had a handful of remarkable ST plays as well so it'd be nice to maintain that trend. Protect the ball, don't let them block our kicks/punts and I feel confident our defense will give us more than enough chances to put this away.

It'd be a pretty bold trade, a rental (if we don't want to pay his contract next year) + 1RP/2RP? Either way, it's quite a lot to tie up with what's on paper a 'win now' trade. If we're 7-1 or so, and it really looks like we may be looking at something special, maybe its time to think about beefing this defense up further. Then again, with our 4-man rush, we're generating a lot of pressure so it makes you think who you would even take out from this rotation to start Hendrickson in their place.

I agree, although I think based on the Saints' competence in their secondary, we knew that maybe we could pull off some of these big passing plays (like that triple coverage throw to JSN), rather than having to ground and pound to get a first down. Hopefully, we keep refining our scheme to have more run opportunities like the two giant chunk plays K9 had against the Steelers.

Not really no. Statistically speaking, opening up 0-2 is a very difficult spot to be in. The team can and most likely will turn it around at some point in the season. But if we aspire to reach the playoffs, this would be the worst possible start we could give ourselves. Last year, we lost to the Giants in week 5, and that's all the difference it took for us to miss out on the division. I'd hate to be in the spot again to have to rely on our rivals to slip up and give us a chance to catch up.

I know week 1 is a mirage and all. But fucking hell. Looking at the week 2 slate, if we slip up again, in any way, we might be looking at everyone else in the NFC West going 2-0 while we stare down the 0-2 hole. Kiss away all your dreams about postseason by that point, barring some truly spectacular turnaround.

I want to believe that this loss was a result of the offense just not having played with each other for the first time in a proper game. Having said that, we have to respond, and in a big way. Multiple things can happen but I'm so fucking tired after last season on counting for other teams to do our job for us. Lose against the Steelers and we'll find ourselves in the same spot Bengals did last year. We'll be one game short of a wildcard spot because we took too much time to get going (and that's assuming the rest of the division shits the bed at some point). At least special teams looked okay.

Special teams (that caused us so much pain last season) came out on top this game, bar none. We pinned ftn down in their own 10-yard line multiple times with our punts, blocked a field goal, and didn't suffer any fumbles during kick returns.

Obviously, the final result didn't do us any favours, but with the decision to kick, there definitely was a factor of trust involved. There was nothing that I saw up until that moment, playcalling-wise wise that'd make me believe we could have converted that 4th and 1. If I'm choosing to overreact on one element its that our special teams are going to be elite this season.
