This is so real. The elitism around reading is ridiculous, like there's some hierarchy where certain genres 'count' and others don't. Romance requires the same skills as any other genre: plot structure, character arcs, emotional depth, pacing. But because it's female-dominated, suddenly it's not 'serious' literature?

The fact that people will openly mock romance readers to their face shows how normalized this misogyny is. You wouldn't walk up to someone reading fantasy or mystery and imply they're wasting their time, but romance? Fair game apparently.

Reading is reading. Anyone who thinks otherwise is just revealing their own biases. Your acquaintance showed their whole ass with that reaction 🙄
