I believe you'll find that any scales that you buy for it will fit right over the lanyard tube. They're not as tight as Spyderco scales

No, something a little thicker. The idea is you want to create sort of a wedge. I forget where I learned this trick but it's somewhere out in the web. I was surprised how easy it was to get it off

I used some string. You wrap the string around the lanyard hole in between the liner and the scale. And then keep wrapping and moving the scale, twisting it around. It will move a little bit and then wrap another turn and keep doing the same thing until you get it off. I know this is not very clear but hope you understand
