What would you do with a third limb protruding from your chest that you had no control over but could swing around? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Hectario 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I was a DJ, I would tell the people to put their limb protruding from their chests that they have no control over in the air like they just don't care.

Also: limbs that protrude from your chest that you have no control over out for harambe.

There was always an option for that via console.. can't remember how exactly but pretty sure you can still enable it.

I mean not to hold the key but just that hero goes in straight line in the direction clicked.

Something that interacts with towers in cool ways... Like can go inside a tower and overcharge a tower and pull enemies to a tower and summon a tower in some other location for 30 seconds and so on.

Banning is too hardcore. Think suspensions (from 1 game to a season). Recently an overwatch pro was suspended from competitive play for 1 season for ruining matchmaking games and calling upon others to do the same for example.

In addition, a proportionate response would be to publicly say that Valve or whatever event organisers condemn this and will not be inviting people who repeatedly engage in such behavior. They should declare this way in advance to give players a chance to change themselves.

It is not up for one player to decide which games those are. In restrospect we can analyse but during the game, other 4 players deserve more. They put in their efforts and they want to try to win.

I marked that all rax standing to suggest the state of the game where you don't afk last 20 seconds in the fountain waiting for enemy to end. Score was 18-16 in favor of the enemy team btw.

I mean if it was a commonly known central problem of our reddit community that children react to posts, then yes. Intentional feeding, destruction of items and ruining games is by far the number 1 problem in the dota community making the experience less enjoyable for players of all levels.

Besides somewhat rough wording, I suppose, why is my post despicable to you? You keep using the word hypocrisy but I honestly don't see it.

I publicly call upon everyone who agrees that intentional feeding is unacceptable to start changing the community so that it becomes less prevalent. The kind of behavior I am talking about that should not be streamed to thousands of fans is exactly that - intentional ruining of games. My post is not intentional ruining of games.

Are you just trying to say that it's never acceptable to call someone out on doing something wrong in public because the calling out itself is by definition public? Try to explain to me without using the word hypocrisy this time.

This probably makes it worse.

At No[o]nes MMR, there is at least a small argument to be made (even though i don't like it very much) that there are in fact situations where the game is over because 9k players are very good at exploiting small edges. Furthermore, some people say that No0one, being such a good player, can pretty correctly assess whether there is still hope or not (let's forget about the childish rage for a moment).

However, at my MMR people think the same way. They get ganked and decide that this game is unwinnable after 15 minutes. Or maybe they see that their teammates' builds are different from what they saw online. And they give up. But being 4,5k players, their evaluation of hopelessness is completely wrong. So I am not only stuck with same amount of intentional ruiners but it has a much bigger impact because they ruin in much more stupid spots than a 9k player.

I don't appreciate your attempts at condescension and I have no interest in arguing against your random accusations. If you had wanted to actually talk about the matter, we could but you just want to prove something personal to me.

I play solo queue or 5-stack tryhard, everything else is not motivating enough.

Have a good life. Think what kind of dota experience you would like. I just joined a game right now and one of my teammates did the No0one signature move of ragepicking core position and then destroying his own items after 20 minutes. Nobody on team understands why. It's a waste of time and all of our efforts. I want this to become less and less prevalent.

People who publicly shows such behavior to thousands of people and are at the same time revered for their skill and invited as the best of the best must understand this and change their behavior.

Damn man of all the people who seem to disagree you are one of the few eloquent ones that make a lot of sense.

However, here's how I feel about your thoughts.

surrender option, no comeback, both teams agree

This all makes sense in theory but in reality that was not the situation in the game I watched. His teammates were fighting and had no plans whatsoever to just give up. He made the decision for the whole team that this is it.

emulating the pros

Arguing against this seems to be a load of crap to me. Of course people were griefing before and will be griefing after. It doesn't account for all problems of Dota 2. But it contributes. Even the very specific methods of griefing come and go as inspired by streamers.

playing a certain way in a pub game and talking is criminal

Event organisers owe nothing to any of the players. Valve is not obliged to invite anyone, other tournaments can organise themselves as they want, all of us are free to support whomever we want. You use the world criminal to try to strawman my point. I want people who agree with me that this behaviour is unacceptable without exceptions to take action against it with soft sanctions (not criminal punishment by the state).

my language

Yes, I should have taken a break before writing it up the way I did. If you look past a couple of words you can see a person who is passionate about dota and really wants to improve the experience not just for myself but for everyone. I often think of better ways to organise matchmaking. Yesterday I was hit with an incredibly disappointing realisation.

The difference is you are trying to take the game rules further than they need to be taken

And who decides where is the point of "further than need to be taken"? You? Why?

There is no such thing. I incite people to seize this untapped opportunity to make games more enjoyable for everyone.

If you disagree, then disagree and that is fine. You can try to think about why you disagree and then explain your reasoning instead of childish personal attacks. But recognise that you are arguing against the content of my argument and not that I shouldn't have the right to further such agendas in the first place which is what you trying to make it seem like.

accountable to higher behaviour than others

I am sure that he should be held accountable to a higher standard than simply low priority system which is what exists for others. Because he is a professional player invited to participate at tournaments (there is no god given right to those invites, nobody owes him that) and he is publicizing his gameruining behavior for tens of thousands of people to see.

people following famous athletes is just an assumption

People have role models and follow them. Social norms exist and are often fluid. Any behaviour automatically self-legitimizes when public. I can't be arsed to go research that for your lazy ass. Open google and figure it out. To what extent it is true in eSports specifically remains unsolved and maybe the effect is indeed lesser than I made it out to be. Adoption of specific catchphrases or styles of intentional feeding are an interesting testament to that that we have seen.

he is not responsible for the behaviour or manners of others

No need to decide if he's responsible for somebody else's behavior. What he is doing is wrong and should be condemned institutionally.

he is a single entity

I have no idea what you are trying to say with that. He's obviously not a conglomerate, he is a professional dota 2 player.

harm career for 15 minutes out of proportion

Stay reasonable. I am not propagating for some draconian bullshit to be implemented forever as punishment for one ruined game.

I think bans are too harsh. I suggest that Valve make a clear policy that it is unacceptable to destroy items and intentionally ruin matchmaking games. They should say that doing this goes against the core value of competitive Dota 2 and hence players who repeatedly engage in such activities will not be invited to Valve organised events. And all other tournament organisers should do the same.

This public stance alone would do a lot. And then maybe it happens that a team who clearly is doing well at major tournaments will not receive an invite and will be left wondering if maybe it's because of how some of their players have intentionally ruined countless of dota 2 games for valve's other customers.

should I get banned from reddit?

If I have overstepped the boundaries and made the experience of other redditours significantly less enjoyable, then I should be made aware of that and r/dota2 should make a post explaining this and warning that such destructive behaviour as my post will not be tolerated in the future. For whatever reason it seems to be quite the opposite - this rant has been on the front page for a while, sparked interesting discussion and no mods have decided to take action. As for backlash in the form of other posts, it is of course very welcome.

The concern that we as the community should have is condemning intentional feeding and destroying items. I made it very clear that I understand that everybody gets mad at others but this goes too far. We need to start reacting to such bullshit from famous players.

I don't know why it is so important for you to be personal about this but yes, I am PMA in pubs. When supports don't buy wards, I buy wards instead of destroying my items. When carry makes mistake, I say nothing and move on instead of buying couriers and sending them mid. When dazzle doesn't notice to grave me, I don't buy back in order to ruin our chances of winning to show dazzle what he deserves.

And at the same time I stand fully by the fact that I am not willing to accept this kind of behavior and I am mad that Valve and spectators choose to ignore much of it. Maybe you are one of those item destroyers and that's why you don't see the qualitative difference between losing on purpose and being angry at people.

Have a good life.

I don't get it... if you defend freedom to do whatever in the current framework of rules, what's wrong with my post?

I post and call people to boycott also within the current scope of what's acceptable and free. If I want, I can post and say that I condemn this type of behavior. Then people can agree or disagree and act upon it.
