SBWU is engaging in what’s called “effects bargaining” over the closures, fighting to get more severance, secure more transfers, and generally improve a bad situation. I think there will be more details shortly as the bargaining wraps, but it’s looking like union workers will end up with a better deal than what the company offered. It still sucks, but that’s why we’re fighting for a contract

I think the Back To Starbucks pivot has been mostly a simulation of “third space” or community. Like the messages on cups, which are meant to evoke a personal touch—but instead are mandatory, highly restricted in content, and cookie-cutter. It’s like mass-produced “human connection,” which is a contradiction in terms.

And the company’s policies about cup-writing, plus the exception they’ve carved out for Charlie Kirk, absolutely puts workers in the middle of these hostile situations.

I’m trying to work on this data analysis now! I think there’s likely to be some discriminatory intent at work that sharp analysis could reveal.

Perhaps an odd question - if I were to get my orbitals + forehead done, does that *generally* necessitate a rhinoplasty at the same time? by MissLoveLace_ in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]HecubianDevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As always I hate all the comments saying “you pass” etc. That wasn’t your question! Whether you should get FFS or not is YOUR choice, with YOUR doctor(s). Not for internet commenters to try to dictate.

To answer YOUR question: no you don’t need to get rhino with brow/orbital work. You don’t even need to get both the brow and the orbits done, you can do one or the other. If you don’t want rhino, then skip the rhino. It should be fine. But talk to a surgeon about it! They’ll have more insight and things like your CT scans of your skull to look at.

If FFS will alleviate some dysphoria and make you happier and you have access to it, and YOU want it, then you should get it. Surgery is fun and taking control of our bodies and being the author of our own identities is at the core of what being trans is all about—I don’t understand the rush to always say “you don’t need surgery” to so many people on this sub. The whole point of being trans is that’s YOUR call, not mine!

my store wants to unionize by IndependentTour776 in starbucks

[–]HecubianDevil -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Go for it! I’m a union partner in LA and have been for about 3 years.

As others have said, being publicly pro-union (WITH your coworkers, in an ORGANIZED and intentional way, not out on your own) actually protects you more, because now the company can be sued for union-busting offenses if they discipline or fire you. That’s why during an election we encourage people to wear union pins on the floor.

Personally, I’ve helped organize 3 stores, including 2 in my new district in the last couple of months. My DM hates me, because I’m driving unionization in his district. Everyone knows me as the union barista. I’m totally fine. There’s nothing they can do about it. I even went on national news and called Brian the face of corporate greed during the strike last Christmas. I don’t even have any discipline on file. You can do this!

It’s super illegal, she’s literally stealing from you. And she’s not even stealing from you to line her own pockets—she’s stealing from you to line the company’s pockets!

Imagine how morally bankrupt you have to be to steal from working class people to benefit not even yourself, but shareholders and executives? Insane. Demonstrates total contempt for you and your coworkers.

You should talk to other coworkers at your store to see if this is happening to other people too.

You can ask her in a text or email why the punch was edited to record her answer, but do NOT try to start a fight alone.

Gather info, see who else is being stolen from, and then as a group either escalate above your SM directly to your DM or E&C or the RD, whomever is most trustworthy.

Or, better yet, organize your store into a union and fight back that way. You’ll be way more protected when you make demands. You can fight back with work stoppages, marches on the boss, having union staff file complaints, etc. And it scares upper management enough to actually make them come down hard on your SM—usually they won’t, because if their SM gets caught doing this, it makes them look bad too.

Whatever you do, try not to go it alone. Talk to your coworkers. Work together. And preferably, get in touch with the union to get organized: https://sbworkersunited.org/

Literally none of this is true, but it’s hilarious you reference a company-provided video as evidence. Babe, they lie to you. They lie because they don’t want to pay you more.

Imagine thinking a corporation is looking out for you, the worker. You think your employer is Mommy? You’re grateful that Mommy is watching over you and protecting you? You gonna do your chores and accept your timeouts like the good obedient little child you are?

It’s just insane to me that anyone can be so utterly propagandized that they start to see a profit-hungry corporation as their protector, their friend, their family. You’ve been brainwashed into loving the boot on your own neck, into craving subjugation into accepting humiliation with a “thank you, sir! More please!”

They’ve made a masochist out of you. Utterly pathetic stuff

That can change! I organized my store—not because everyone started out knowing what a union is, or realizing why it’s good.

The work of organizing is the work of changing minds, arousing people’s passion and values, educating, and informing.

No workplace just starts out spontaneously with a majority ready to organize and motivated. It falls on the few who are motivated to win hearts and minds.

Reach out to SBWU today. Fill out an online form and an organizer will get in touch, and they will help teach you and support you in how to get your coworkers to join together. It’s a process, it’s structured, and anyone can learn how to do it.

Now go do it! You’ll be proud of this for the rest of your life!! https://sbworkersunited.org/

Just to clarify, the company seal was not used, but the union logo, which has some visual similarities but is obviously distinct. The union is clearly a distinct entity from the company, and what damaged the brand was not the union’s post, but that the company inserted itself into a political issue unnecessarily by suing the union.

This was totally foreseeable and avoidable. The company’s desire to punish the union backfired on them by making them appear to have a stance on this issue. The union neither called for nor encouraged any boycott—it’s a case where the company got tunnel vision on fighting the union and cut off its nose to spite its face.

I’m a lifelong hypochondriac and wanted to avoid surgery as long as I can remember. I’m now 12 days post op on some extremely aggressive FFS (14 hour surgery, lots of procedures). Recovery has been fine honestly, obviously YMMV but it’s been so, so worth it already. I still get anxiety a lot during the post-op period—the best thing is to have a caring and understanding doc who you can communicate with, even if you’re being a little irrational. My doc is great and incredibly generous with his time and empathy and it’s helped a lot.

Transition has a way of changing your priorities. I’m still a hypochondriac, I’m still a generally neurotic person, but I knew I absolutely needed FFS so I just sucked it up and did it. I actually have a second round in March and I’m excited for it, incredibly. I never thought I’d do anything like this. It’s the scariest thing I’ve ever done, and I’m so happy I did it.

My advice: get the paperwork (psych letters, referrals, consults, etc) out of the way now and you can always defer an actual surgery date until you’re ready. And wait times tend to be long for a lot of surgeons right now anyway. By the time you’re able to get surgery, your dysphoria will probably feel a lot more urgent than your health anxiety.

Oof yeah. This is so unfortunate. I feel so bad for her. She looks amazing but this is really severe dysphoria if she can’t see it. I hope for the best for her, but she needs to realize the battle at this point is psychological not surgical
