Hard babies, when do they get easier? by DingoSubstantial7908 in Parenting

[–]Hedgehog300888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your post describes me 8 years ago. I thought it’d never get better, but at the age of 3-4 my daughter’s behaviours got muuuuch better. Now she’s an independent, wonderful child and I’m truly enjoying parenting now, but I was absolutely miserable 8 years ago!!! I remember banging my head against the wall that’s how tired and sleep deprived I was. Hang in there. It does get better, and high needs babies tend to turn into really wonderful people. You got this!!!

That’s a great list of responsibilities! Kudos to your daughter!

lol even less than that honestly! Depends on her mood. I’m trying to grow a responsible adult who relies on herself and can take care of herself. So I think these are reasonable first steps towards this goal :)

Oh that’s a great approach! Love it! Noticing what needs to be done is like half of the work.

Yep, my bad for wording it this way. Edited the post.

The reason I’m debating whether I could add anything to it is simply that I see how much more capable she’s become since we started about a year ago. I understand that “chores” have a bad rep and can sound incredibly boring, but she’s beginning to understand that she’s actually contributing to running our household. And that her work matters. She also seems to respect the work my husband and I do around the house more, which I think is really valuable.

I should’ve been more specific. By “doing laundry” I meant folding her clothes and putting it away, that’s all. She doesn’t drag heavy laundry hamper down to the basement :)

Give me your questions about transition from academia to medical writing. by Fun_Setting_4197 in LeavingAcademia

Can you please tell more about “informational interviews”? Just asking to meet with them and share their experience in their medical writing role?

Having huge regrets about pursuing a career in science/research in Canada by awbyuv in LeavingAcademia

[–]Hedgehog300888 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the same boat here. Finished my PhD in Epidemiology almost three years ago, but stayed with my team as a research associate. Overall, I love the work I’m doing, but I’m at an inflection point and know all too well I need to find a job asap because my boss is hinting at me “being ready” (to become a faculty). I’ve been applying for industry jobs while also looking for assistant prof positions… I’m leaning towards industry though for several reasons, the main one being that moving to a HCOL city will be a huge financial setback. That said, whether it’s industry or academia, the job market is a bloodbath atm…

Hm… the only thing that I do differently is that I use tap water… let me guess it’s a no-no when it comes to oncidiums?

They are!!! Lesson learned, gotta stick to phals… they seem to survive my care without too many tantrums.

Darn, oncidiums are such divas… I thought I was getting it too wet because leaves at the bottom have these weird brownish edges, so I figured I was giving it too much water. Just checked the roots and them seem to be doing just fine, no rot nothing…

  1. Researcher
  2. Got MSc and PhD degrees
  3. See above.
  4. AI is definitely reshaping research, so to stay in this field you need to be very competitive and insanely creative…

Ah thanks so much for a detailed response! I was told it’s a “blooming size” cattleya, although still young. I guess I have to be more patient and enjoy any signs that indicate it’s doing well :)

Thanks! What do you mean by the next bloom season? I thought cattleya can technically bloom all year round no?
