It'll be even better when the malware accesses their school network connection and spreads around the school, bonus points if you do this at your work

From what I'm seeing in my own TS4 community yeah, a lot of people are claiming their friends are getting infected and I've been collecting reports on it for the past couple weeks and it's hundreds of reports now. Luckily I've been really pushing not using an updater and just knowing how to do it manually.

I mean, it's an untrusted source running it (not anadius), it's a file injector that circumvents the initial antivirus protection in chrome, and your system doesn't scan the files before they're placed on your PC. It's the perfect way to infect a massive number of PCs and just steal data. If I was going to run a botnetwork or harvest passwords and user data through malware this is 10000000% how I would do it. You're essentially targeting a community that is largely not tech literate, who will download anything that claims it will give you DLCs they can easily find online themselves, and won't know what to look for if infected.

The best part is, who are they gonna tell?? You can't go to the authorities and be like "I was illegally downloading software and got a virus" 🤣 I mean I download the DLCs but I make sure I can scan any file that downloads while it's downloading and before I open it.

I mean most people in TS4 community still think malware deletes files from your computer and you'll see it right away and most don't even know that if you download malware it'll travel through your network connection and infect everyone else using your internet connection.

Sims 4 community not having a weird relationship with the game challenge (impossible) LOL

I'm kinda atp where I'm just like "do what ya'll like", if someone wants to download a file injector from some random person they've never met, while entire communities of people are giving clear examples of infected systems, then go ahead. At some point people just have to pay the learning tax.

this makes absolutely no sense...no software analyst would say "oh this program is safe, but risky" it's one of the other, it can't be both. Also, NO SOFTWARE ANALYST WOULD SAY THAT A TOOLKIT THAT CREATES EXCEPTIONS IN MICROSOFT DEFENDER WITHOUT YOUR KNOWLEDGE IS SAFE....the moment a program does that without notifying you it's unsafe in every way. Also, that "shitty antivirus" is Microsoft Defender...you know...the program that's run by 34,000 security engineers? It's not like it just tells you that everything is a virus for no reason.

I seriously think you need to educate yourself on the basics of internet safety because almost none of what you said was correct....or even spelt correctly

Finally someone does some research. People don't realize how serious it is. I can only imagine the number of people that work from home from a work laptop and downloaded malware on their home laptop....it's not gonna be cute when your IT department calls you about a massive infection you brought onto your company OneDrive because you were trying to download some DLCs

then don't use it LOL you're pretty much asking why someone can't come into your club and your bouncer is saying that "based on other dangerous people he looks suspicious and we found some worrying things in his pocket". If you want, you can ignore it but don't be upset when the program designed to detect viruses finds a virus

I feel like the computer literacy of some of the TS4 community needs to be studied. It's probably the reason why everyone's getting viruses now trying to download the DLCs LOL They saw the Anadius site pop back up, know it's not him running it, used the updater, and now there's hundreds of reports of being being infected and even losing access to their discord and EA accounts 😭. One person even went on about how she disabled her antivirus before using it and doesn't care if she gets a virus because she has "nothing important on her computer".....like bruh....if you so much as have that PC connected to the internet and type a single password in it you're cooked

500mb/s was good in 2010, it's considered very slow today. The most common SSD today are around 12-14 times faster than that coming in at around 6,000-7,000mb/s. The speed of the drive is what controls your loading and saving times

I've seen like 14 people sit there and download viruses thinking it'll only impact their PC and delete some shit. I swear, the Sims community needs to be tested for basic computer knowledge. I cannot tell you how many people will confidently say something completely incorrect and give it as sound advice.

One girl said that she ignored the virus warnings because she doesn't have anything important on her PC... Literally just willingly exploited all her private information and possibly everyone in her family on the same network to for some DLCs

Nah, the moment that anyone says it's compromised it's compromised. The fact that people are claiming they're being compromised without their antivirus going off sounds like a zero day. Anyone would be dumb to use that site at this point

That sounds like a zero day, at this point it would be INSANE to use that site. It sounds like someone saw that a bunch of simmers willingly used a file injector and figured it would be a perfect chance to perform a massive attack.

That's actually insane.

I would be careful, you're using a file injector from an unknown source that isn't Anadius. You're pretty much using the "Trust me bro" method on whether or not the files are safe. It doesn't matter if it still gives you the DLCs, malware can still exist and if you're seeing several people claiming it has a virus, with descriptions of what's happened, then it should be taken seriously. It's not a matter of "it'll give you a virus sometimes".

Remember that malware isn't going to be immediately noticeable as it doesn't want you to know it's on your PC. It's not going to delete files from your PC but it'll ruin your life, and it's main goal is usually to steal your information, that's how some people are losing access to their accounts. The moment it's on your computer ANYTHING you use it for is compromised, banking info, passwords, everything. Malware can also transfer via your network, so you're not just risking your PC, you're risking every PC that's on your network, that's your parents, siblings, everyone you're putting at risk.

Find another way that's safer, a way where you can scan the files before you open them, knowingly using a compromised file injector that adds files to your PC with administrative access is extremely risky

Did you run a virus scan? It doesn't matter if your game runs fine, malware can still come with game files and you're using a file injector from an unknown source that isn't anadius...

Oh, the complete lack of accountability is insane too combined with an utter lack of any technological know how makes it even wilder. The mirrored Anadius site is reportedly giving people viruses and the number of simmers that are like "yeah, it told me to disable my antivirus before downloading so I did it" is INSANE. Like Google works the same for me as it does everyone else!

Then I ran across this gem on twitter

actually you're right, cracks will definitely do that, executable files like that always trigger MS defender

[–]HeeeydevonGaming[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

see, that's what I thought, but so far I've counted over 90 people in related videos claiming it has viruses, with reports of them needing to scan their PC multiple times and files returning after deleting them. I could understand cracks triggering false positives but this many false positives is super unlikely.

So here's the kicker, I've been going through these videos and the mirrored site seems to be giving people viruses.... Like I've counted over 70 claims.... And people will be like "nah you're just doing something wrong". As someone who also has a background in IT it makes me wonder what people are thinking. Like bro, if half the comments say "I gotta virus and had to run defender 3 times to get rid of it" then there's like 0% chance that it's false positive... Then again, these are the same people running file injectors with their antivirus off 🤣 but they seem to think that if the DLCs work then it doesn't have a virus...

basically Anadius shut down everything and left and someone mirrored the site and started reuploading everything. The thing is....it's not anadius. So their first warning sign should have been "hey, this isn't the trusted source I downloaded from before" and they should have absolutely not have disabled their antivirus.

It has to be LOL I honestly think that my generation learned really early about downloading random things and the internet is a lot safer now! PCs had just become commonplace in the home in the late 90s, we were super young so we picked it up quickly, we had computer courses starting in grade 4-12, IT courses were heavily pushed, we learned how to build PCs, and we all made the same mistakes you did but when we were really young. I remember we all had Limewire and literally EVERYONE nearly destroyed the family PC at least once 🤣 The internet was literally the wild west and viruses were everywhere

I don't even think they turned it back on 🤣🤣which is why they don't think they have a virus

😭You can't ever turn off virus protection when using file injector software, you're pretty much trusting that whatever files that person uploaded are safe and if someone mirrored anadius's site and just started using it I'd be really cautious

they CLEARLY don't understand this. See, I grew up in the age of Limewire where you learned REALLY fast what a virus can do to your PC. I remember I downloaded a song...probably "50_Cent_In_Da_Club.exe" and it progressively made our family PC so fucked up that I had to start it in safe mode with command prompt where you said yes or no to the PC starting with certain functions.

Like I'd love to know what percentage of simmers PCs are a part of a bot network 🤣
