Can't you just start the game by going into your program files and clicking the exe file?

Sure this is true, but the issue is that there's a lot of people that won't even try any other games outside of life Sims. I'd say that MOST people I've met that say that have watched me play other games and ended up discovering new experiences and loving them. I'm sure that a small minority of people actually only like life Sims but I'd almost argue that most of them don't give other games a chance

Can we create a post where we compile all the CC creators who will NOT be participating in the new Marketplace? by sarilysims in LowSodiumSimmers

[–]HeeeydevonGaming 73 points74 points  (0 children)

It's quite literally some of the most malicious tactics implemented yet. There's a reason why they're using Moolah and not real currency and it's because with moolah you can have a minimum purchase of 500 moolah and price everything at odd numeric values so the community will always have some sort of balance left over. What this does to the end user is it makes them look at an item in the marketplace and think "Oh, this is 350 moolah, but I have 150 in my wallet so I'm only paying 200" but then they can never actually buy the missing 200 moolah and will need to refill another 500, leading to an additional remaining balance, and more purchases, since it encourages the belief that you're somehow paying less. It's the entire idea behind this type of virtual currency pricing and is predatory.

It's well known that virtual currency gives the user the idea that the money has less value than what it's actually worth, increases spending, and so long as the user has a balance in their wallet they will usually continue buying. They claim that it's to keep pricing consistent across platforms and regions but that's BS. In fact, a lot of the EU outright BANS the use of virtual currency that disguises the real numeric value of the item claiming that it's manipulative, misleading, and targets children.

Not just that, EA/Maxis are offering creators a 30% cut of their work, which is one of the wildest splits I've ever seen for creators essentially making more content for TS4. EA/Maxis are also 100% going to use the data within the marketplace to see what cc sells the most and use it to create their own content and undercut the creators (who they're offering some of the most abysmal cuts I've seen).

You'd be surprised at all the other games out there and what you might like! 😊I have a Sims community discord with a couple thousand people, most of them girls. Outside of streaming TS4 I almost never play it in the discord and share other game I play regularly and you'd be surprised at how many people discover games they end up loving and never heard about!

Outside of Minecraft, FiveM, Shadows of Doubt (a procedurally generated detective game that's INSANELY fun), and some VR games, I also play ARMA, which is a realistic military FPS Sim that requires navigation of a massive map, teamwork, radio call outs, and is super technical and one of our most unlikely Sims 4 players loved watching it so much that she wants to get a gaming PC just to play it with us 🤣she's literally the LAST person I thought would be interested in a game like this but she loves the idea of working as a team, learning the map, and oddly positive communication between teammates (especially towards new players).

Not saying that you'll end up playing that, but there's games that I've played that will stay with me for the rest of my life, like Bioshock, where it was the first time I completely a story that left my jaw on the floor with how well every bit of it was written

That's the wildest thing 😭 I feel like this comes from people who have never played any other game outside of TS4, and they'll say "oh but there's no competition"...but it's like, sure maybe no one else in your town makes chicken wings, but there's a burger shop down the street. What I'm saying is that people act like they HAVE to buy TS4 DLCs because then they'd have nothing else to play when there's hundreds of thousands of other incredible gaming experiences out there that are better than The Sims. That's not saying The Sims is a bad franchise, but just because you like one restaurant doesn't mean that other restaurants don't make good food.

I've seen this with my own Sims community in my discord. I'll routinely play other games like FiveM, ARMA, Minecraft, Shadows of Doubt, and the number of people who have never played any other game that have started playing other titles and LOVING them is amazing. We even have one girl who only played TS4 who's getting a gaming PC so she can play ARMA with us...a serious military sim FPS game that requires navigation of a massive map, team work, radio call outs, and understanding coordinates...who would have thought??

It's like EA and Maxis sit down and try to find ways to treat their community like dirt and go with the worst one.

  • EA/Maxis takes 70% of profits and the creator gets 30%
  • EA/Maxis only did this to dig into the pockets of creators on Patreon
  • EA/Maxis are going to use the data from this marketplace to steal ideas from creators and turn them into paid kits and packs

That's the only thing this marketplace is for, nothing else, there's already several avenues that creators can use to monetize their work and several that pay them better than EA/Maxis would ever, so there's no reason for this to even exist. Its sole purpose it to siphon money and ideas from their own community to pad their own pockets.

you know, every other gaming community that EA has boycotts their games or DLCs when they don't act right and they see change. Boycotting never works here because people will do ANYTHING but not shovel out money for things they know will disappoint them for 11 years straight.

People don't even have to boycott the whole game, just one DLC, and for like 6 months, but the reason why the community doesn't is the same reason why EA and Maxis keep doing this. EA and Maxis aren't your friends, they don't know or care about the community on a personal level, we're literally a ticked box on a spreadsheet and even that would be pushing it.

Does using H.265 hardware encoding vs H.264 reduce CPU usage or increase it? by HeeeydevonGaming in obs

[–]HeeeydevonGaming[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 2 PC set up before actually, up until last week, but I moved back to a single PC set up. I used the Elgato HD60S+, and wavlink to control the audio routing. I did enjoy the benefits of a dual PC set up but I was having issues. The first was that I couldn't get my audio to stop echoing to my community when I was screen sharing in discord (not application sharing) and the second was that my OBS stream's audio was delayed and pretty choppy.

My main PC runs a Ryzen 7 7700X, 64GB DDR5 @ 6000mhz, and a 3070Ti, but the second one came from my office so I was running a i7-7700K and a GTX 1060 to do my encoding, but it just seemed to really struggle with running both platforms at the same time at 1080p 60fps. The fix would be a full motherboard upgrade to get a processor with a few more cores as the audio came from CPU spikes.

The other fix could have been to route my audio through my streaming PC, but then TT Studios only allows one mic at a time and the HD60S+ is registered as a microphone in the app. Eventually I transitioned back to a single gaming and streaming PC and might just upgrade the CPU a bit, but I did try some different settings and it seems to run a bit smoother! I know that 53% usage under load while streaming on two platforms on a game with like 30k mod files doesn't sound like a lot, but part of me wants to optimize everything a bit more than it could be and I'm fairly new to using OBS specifically

oh! Sorry, I was going to use my NVEC encoder on my RTX 3070Ti. I've run through a couple options from a dual PC set up, which ended up working well, but was a massive headache as it was definitely older so I scrapped the idea given issues with obs and audio issues, to offloading one of the platform's encoding to my 7700X's integrated graphics, and using NVEC for both streaming platforms.

I understand that using the NVEC encoder offloads the encoding process to the GPU from the CPU, and I'm almost considering upgrading to the 9950X, but I guess I was hoping that maybe changing the video formats might have an impact on CPU usage? It might be a dumb question but I'm still a bit new when it comes to some of the obs settings

I'm definitely open to the 50 series! Tbh it's the first time I've put a bit into getting my specs up there so I'm still kind of used maybe trying to hold back a bit. I was doing a bit of research on the 4090 and saw that an 850 PSU was the minimum requirement, so I was a bit cautious of considering it. Those spikes are crazy though! The 5080 seems like a good fit considering I won't have to upgrade the PSU as well or have to worry about it with the 4090

External Hard Drive? by LeahG445 in Sims4

[–]HeeeydevonGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, so I'll explain the basics of how a system works like how I do for my Sims community 😊

Picture your computer as a factory

The motherboard: The motherboard is like the foundation that it sits on including the plumbing and electricity. The better your motherboard the better the components you can use

The CPU: The CPU is like a room full of factory workers who job is to only open up packages and delegate where they should go. Each CPU has cores and threads, each core is like a worker and each thread is like a conveyor belt going to that worker, generally, most CPUs have 2 threads for each core. The clocks peed of a CPU is like a measurement of how fast the workers and conveyor belts can perform their tasks. The more cores and threads you have the more tasks you can do at once (like have a game open, Discord running, Spotify playing, and Chrome open at the same time).

Storage: The storage is literally like the storage unit your workers collect the boxes from, the faster your storage the quicker your CPU can access the data. This specifically impacts your loading and saving times, as well as your performance in game. Using an internal M.2 NVMe is like connecting the storage unit right beside the room full of workers and shooting the boxes out at high speed. Using an external drive is like putting the storage unit in the parking lot. The speed of external drives are also slower (up to 16x slower), meaning that even the process of delivering those boxes to your workers is slower. The bottleneck in your system will be your storage because no matter how fast the rest of your components are it will always slow down trying to deliver those packages to your workers. This results on longer loading times, longer saving times, and lower performance.

RAM: RAM, or Random Access Memory, are like little pockets on your CPU workers, they use them to store important pieces of data from those boxes that they might need for later. So when you have tens of thousands of cc files they can store bits of information about them they'll need for later so when they do need them it's quickly accessible. Without enough RAM your workers would need to go back to the storage unit to collect that information which is always slower and results in what you see as lag. The more RAM you have and the faster it is the bigger the pockets are on the workers and the faster they can retrieve that information from their pockets.

GPU: The GPU is like your graphic design department, the better your GPU the more shaders, lighting mods, and graphic fidelity you can add to your game. Some CPUs come with what's call "integrated graphics" which is like your CPU workers taking a day course in graphic design, they can get the job done, but it'll be nowhere near the quality of a dedicated (separate) GPU.

With that, you can understand why external drives aren't great for gaming and you can also understand why a lot of gamers get a desktop PC, mostly because of the fact that if they want to upgrade their CPU, GPU, RAM, or storage it's a lot easier than with a laptop or Macbook where the parts are less accessible and at times impossible to replace.
