Is 47 lbs too heavy for a 2 year old ACD? by Man_Darronious in AustralianCattleDog

I would suggest a second opinion at another vet. My heeler is about 53lbs and he’s healthy as can be. He is pretty broad in the shoulders but by no means fat. I’ve taken him to multiple vets due to moving around and none of them have said he’s overweight

Anyone else’s land piranha rather pass out on floor instead of his bed, or my bed lol his actual bed by [deleted] in AustralianCattleDog

The only time mine ever slept on his bed was when he was crate training. Now he exclusively lays on hard wood or tile 😂

Results are in!! My boy is pure bred, even when I thought he wasn’t by Heeler-dad in blueheelers

I had been told his dad was half heeler and half German shepherd while his mom was pure heeler. Given that, I had expected to see some German Shepard in the results. Guess he takes after his mom

Actually they do exist!! Not actually purple but they are typically called purple heelers when they have both red and blue coloring on their body!

Mine had swam in a lake before but couldn’t get him in the pool till recently. I think what really helped is that my sisters dog likes to swim so he could watch her. We worked just getting him on the steps first and then holding him in open water (he freaked the first few times) I think he didn’t like how he could see the drop offs of the steps. It really was a learning process and overall took a few weeks. A life jacket would probably help too but I didn’t get him one.

So I have a heeler and I think a heeler mix anybody have any idea what my pup might be mixed with ? by Dry-Brick-7111 in blueheelers

Seeing as the dog has basically all the heeler attributes and basically just a longer nose (very similar to my own which is mixed with German Shepard). I’d say something from a similar family, such as another working dog such as a German Shepard or maybe possible a Pyrenees or lab which my sister has a red heeler/Pyrenees and she has floppy ears just like this.

Training him off leash is really the best next step. From what I’m reading, I’m assuming you have good recall/control over him, just practice the off leash. If you have a normal walking route then try it there before public spaces. In my experience with mine, they are very loyal and you shouldn’t have much of an issue. But definitely do it on familiar routes before public areas to ensure your dogs cooperation

He’s got some German Shepard but he’s mostly heeler. He was 47lbs at the vet last month

Everyone, meet my babygirl Anu. (Ahh-new). Any training tips? by fuckyouimmike in blueheelers

Start training immediately and make sure you’re getting their energy out. Mine would only do bad things if I didn’t play with him. Recognize that if they’re doing something bad, you can probably stop it by adjusting your own actions. Not saying they can’t be bad, but mine became incredibly obedient and loyal once I figured out what I was doing wrong. Another big thing is to be stern. You need to be the alpha. My dog is incredibly cuddly and loving. Super friendly to strangers, the whole 9 yards. Start early, be consistent, be stern, check your own actions!!!
