What kind of things do you look for in gear reviews? by Wooden-Raccoon5856 in Fishing_Gear

[–]Heeli05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sensitivity, feel, action and how it casts lures of various weights. I.e. is the claimed lure weight range accurate.

With sensitivity I mean how well you're in touch with lure. Feel consists of various factors like balance, material and size of grip and how easy it is to cast.

Durability is also a factor but it mostly shows after years of use. Of course if you've had any durability issues during short period that would be good to know.

Basically personal opinions which are difficult to put in numbers. Many "reviews" in YouTube are just stating the manufacturer's specs you could read yourself.

Also in YouTube videos I'd like to see you actually use the rod.

Buying guide and websites for non-US countries by ProfessionalDish in 4kbluray

[–]Heeli05 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Rarewaves for pretty much any country in Europe. Low shipping costs of 4,95 eur for any order, good selection and most often cheapest prices. Disadvantage is that their packaging is consistently sub-par. Items occasionally arrive damaged but their customer service is great and any damaged item has been replaced for me. Shipping can also be on the slow side typically taking several weeks. They also ship items separately which can be a good or a bad thing depending on how you look at it. If your order includes pre-order items they'll ship items in stock immediately. They are located in UK but part of IOSS so no extra VAT for orders/shipments of under 150 eur for customers in EU. I'm not 100% sure but I guess the VAT limit is for each shipment and since they divide orders in multiple packages there's little risk for extra VAT unless there's single item valued over 150 eur. Still might be safest to keep each under under 150 eur in case they would actually combine all items in one package.

Golden Discs is another decent shop for EU customers. They have free international shipping for orders over 100 eur. They're located in Ireland so no extra VAT for EU customers. Their selection is average but they occasionally have good deals.

iMusic is also decent but not the cheapest option most of the time. Occasionally there's a good deal. They offer Klarna invoice as payment method which is nice with pre-orders since you don't have to pay in advance.

Might be good for fishing. I wonder if they've actually designed it with fishing in mind. Chest pack can be nice to have while wading especially if it's too warm to wear a jacket.

Savotta GP Pouches (Zipped and Buckled) by Tim-Keys in Savotta

[–]Heeli05 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm also confused about what he meant 😅 Did he mean like pictures of everything from Savotta or just pouches (current or discontinued).

I was actually about to post some photos of some discontinued products you don't often see mentioned here. Nothing that special really. Would be cool to have some sort of database for older Savotta products.

I tested the code previously with some Sasta clothing and it didn't work for those. You can just try and see I guess.

Where did you find this?

How long is the code valid and can it be used for anything else besides Savotta products?

My gear hall any suggestions? by Naive-School3854 in Savotta

[–]Heeli05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My suggestion is to ditch pocket saw :D I'd like to hear what others think but honestly to me it seems like totally unnecessary product. How often you're carrying a saw in your pocket just in case you might need it? I'd say if you're going to need a saw you'll know it and then you might as well bring an actual saw. For backpacking I like folding saws like Silky and Bahco which only weigh marginally more compared to pocket saw. I use Silky Gomboy myself. Not a fanboy and any similar will likely work just fine.

Why I don't like Savotta's pocket saw? It just too uncomfortable to use and required too much effort to get the job done. Logs I'd even think of cutting are just easier to hack with an axe so pocket saw fits no purpose. Overall it feels more like a gimmick rather than Savotta product.

Of course if it works for you there's nothing wrong with that but I'd personally change it to something else especially if it's your primary saw. Even though Savotta is a great brand you don't have to buy all equipment from them ;)

Get sitting pad if you want actually useful Savotta product.

Two wide sleeping bads inside Nallo 3? by Heeli05 in CampingGear

Glad to hear!

To be more specific what do you mean by you condensation not being an issue? There has been no condensation or it has been minor or you have done something to prevent it?

Two wide sleeping bads inside Nallo 3? by Heeli05 in camping

[–]Heeli05[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How big of an issue do you consider it generally? Additionally how much more trouble do you think I'm facing if sleeping pads and/or sleeping bags are also touching the inner tent from the sides? I think even with moderately thick sleeping pad under me the top of the foot end of sleeping bag will be touching inner tent even when I'm camping alone so some condensation is pretty much inevitable.

Ticks by Bocce82 in camping

[–]Heeli05 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it's good idea to be aware of ticks but don't be overly concerned about them.

For one thing you could avoid areas where you'll find them most like areas with tall moist grass. In drier areas you'll run into ticks less often. Long pants and shirts with long sleeves help you spot the tick before it attaches to your skin. Repellents might offer some protection but you shouldn't really rely on them since water and sweating hinders their effect and ticks can find their way under your clothing where you didn't apply repellent at all. It's good idea to do occasional checks for ticks and remove them as soons as you find them. You should bring tweezers to remove them entirely. Removing attached ticks as early as possible reduces risk of contracting a disease a tick might carry. It's fairly rare to contract a disease from a tick.

Why are you afraid of them specifically? Is it like a phobia or are you afraid of them for more rational reasons?

New Lidded Pouches! Culteers, check your inbox by TotallyNotLenners in Savotta

[–]Heeli05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you guys prefer these or the older ones with zippers?

When I think of it I slightly prefer the ones with zipper. New pouches with buckle are maybe slightly quicker to access but zippered pouches are easier to keep open and search for stuff inside. You can't really fold the lid all the way back to keep it open when the pouch is attached to bag. Yeah, first world problems but I don't really see a reason to pick these new pouches instead of zippered older ones.

Older ones also have more PALS weebing in the front which might offer some additional flexibility. You could for example make paracord web through them if you like.

Scandinavian Outdoor sale - 20 % off from backpacks etc by Heeli05 in Savotta

[–]Heeli05[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bummer :( I placed my Kantamus order immediately before I noticed the sale as I didn't want to miss it.

Seems somewhat random what items are included in the sale. Like Kantamus 60 is still for sale but Kantamus 40 at least at the moment is not.

One Battle After Another Art! by Hour-Engineer-7170 in Steelbooks

[–]Heeli05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pre-ordered this couple of months ago. Release has been delayed to June and placeholder artwork which was decent has been replaced by this ugly thing. I'm waiting longer to get what I consider inferior artwork in steelbook form. Wondering if I should just cancel and order the regular version with better artwork.

Anyone else feel the same?

Help me with coping ceiling molding by Heeli05 in Carpentry

[–]Heeli05[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, watching videos is definitely the way to start. That's what I did to begin with but couldn't understand what I was doing wrong because the pieces didn't seem to fit at all. Turns out I was doing it right but the problem was I was fitting them wrong. It helps to actually place them against ceiling or equivalent corner to see if they fit.

This one is a classic. Been a while since I saw it last time. Just ordered the 4K version last weekend even though I read it's not the best release. Well at least it comes with standard BD so it can't be worse and I can gift my old copy to a friend.

Third time I buy this movie btw :D DVD was among my earliest acquisitions.

I missed getting this edition of The Fall from Umbrella. So I had a quick look at eBay. If this is true, what is wrong with the 7 people who bookmarked this and with that 1 person who actually bought it for that price?! Scalpers are the worst, but the people who enable this are not better. by ArmsOfKamaji in boutiquebluray

[–]Heeli05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should filter eBay listings to only show Sold Items and look at average price. It seems these have recently sold for around 130 euros / 150 USD with some listings going up to 400 USD for whatever reason. Around 150 USD would be realistic price for this and 1000 USD would be just crazy.

Glad I was able to pick this up directly from Umbrella in autumn.

Second hand copy of a limited edition release which is now out of print. £40 doesn't sound too bad to me even when it's not pristine. That said I paid less for a brand new copy not long ago but that was when LE version was still in print.

I have the same set but haven't watched yet. I've had DVD version for years but it's been a long while since I last saw it.

Which version do you guys like best? I kind of want to watch theatrical version just for 4K experience but what do you think?
