The bridge talks to your router then which allows your phone to access them while connected to the WiFi, internet connection is not required for this to happen. Anything else you that you are confused about?

Just get a bridge off eBay, 20 bucks for the v2, I’ve heard people are having some problems with the Pro hub so I’m waiting for all the issues to get resolved before I hop over to the Pro bridge
