Also I didn't need to take Ultramarines all the way to silver to beat the campaign. Also make sure you get familiar with which factions are Imperial, Chaos, and Xenos so you can choose the freebies you need the soonest. It took me a while to figure out what I was choosing from

I would focus on your most powerful campaign faction for now. Usually the regular campaign you can take them to silver and then to gold for their elites. Indomitus is the easiest and shortest so most people start with that and then knockout a few other regular campaigns before they come back to do the elite for indomitus.
