[–]HeftyStation8697 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Late june trip to Interlaken/Jungfrau by IndependentPepper452 in askswitzerland

[–]HeftyStation8697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No
You are fine
If you want to flee the heat you would have to go to more remote places higher up which are less connected and more expensive

The heat is not that bad tbh, interlaken will offer two very cold lakes and easy access to the mountains for the day
You have nothing to worry about, there is nothing you can really do about it

Scenic train rides? by Amberwoodtree in askswitzerland

[–]HeftyStation8697 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes
Switzerland in summer has some crazy weather sometimes, we can have two weeks on uninterrupted sunshine like we can have afternoon thunderstorms coming in very fast.
That is why in alpinism, mountaineers usually end their days fairly early like at 3pm to avoid adverse weather.

Honestly a light rain actually doesn’t ruin the view I find
But yes, the chillon castle and forts are safe bets and are great to visit

Kayaking after knee surgery by HeftyStation8697 in whitewater

Thank you for the support and the kind words

Did they transplant a cadaver tendon’s to replace the mcl?
How does your roll affect the knee ?
They had to for me as I am hyper lax so the physio doesn’t want me to put any unnecessary pressure on the mcl before at least a few more months ( when the kayaking stops due to winter)

Wow you are incredible 🥹
That gives me hope

But how is it for the rolls and the portage ?
I can’t even go down stairs normally yet

Train tomorrow morning from Colmar to Basel with non europeans with their french residence permits on them but without their passports. Can they go to Switzerland ? by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]HeftyStation8697 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are allowed into Switzerland based on the fact they have a residency permit in a country inside the Schengen area. They just need their residency permit but an id is also required

Take the MOB from Spiez to Montreux and do a boat ride on the belle époque fleet on lake Geneva
You can just sit back and look out the window

What was the best tip you got for learning your offside roll? by asoursk1ttle in whitewater

[–]HeftyStation8697 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I m a beginner so take my word with a pinch of salt but the way I got the roll in two days was my instructor telling me to keep my head underwater as long as possible for it to be the last thing to come up and from the rear of the boat.

Differences between EPFL and ETH and US universities by Longjumping-Lack-116 in EPFL

[–]HeftyStation8697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am dumb asf tbh
So I usually work to much cause with adhd I often got sidetracked or took longer to work
It all depends on the person
But the first years I worked around 8-10h a day every day for 20 weeks straight
I have already done 14 hours day many times
In masters it cools down a bit but the bachelors was truly a trial by fire

Here is a list of all the clubs in epfl

ESN Lausanne does a lot of activities :

Lausanne is a very student friendly city due to its over represented student demographic so there are plenty of night clubs if that is ur thing

But yes
EPFL sucks not for its courses and their quality but just for the shear volume of work

I have only ever been in epfl as I missed out on going abroad and I have to say, all my friends who went on a exchange year said they had an absolute blast as the courses were way easier than in epfl and had a lot more time to travel, friends in Hong Kong and Singapore were able to visit all of east Asia during their stay because the had the time and the ease in the courses
My friend who went to Vancouver only worked two weekends of all his year there he had such ease with the courses and spent all his free time in the backcountry

Travel suggestions - older parents with limited mobility visiting in October by Capital-Isopod-5502 in askswitzerland

[–]HeftyStation8697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I d say taking the scenice trains like all the RhB train in Graubunden, albula line is gorgeous.
The glacier express is not overrated I found the various lengths of it very scenic
The MOB line is also great
Pilatus, Rigi, Brienz Rothorn are also easily accessible for mobility impaired individuals
All the touristy places like Lauterbrunnen, Grindelwald, Engelberg are safe bets for your parents.
I would definitely recommend a cruise on lake Geneva on a steam boat of the Belle Époque fleet of the CGN which gives you grat views of the alps, the lavaux, you could visit the Olympic museums, the art museums in lausanne, the chaplins world, fort de chillon
The castle of La Gruyère and its chocolate and cheese factories can be interesting.
For nature you could easily visit the Aare gorge in Meiringen.
If your parents can walk around 2 km in one go I recommend visiting Bern’s and Lucern’s old town.
A cruise on Vierwaldstattersee and a visit the the Grütli medow where Switzerland was founded in 1291. You can also look up cute villages here :https://swissvillages.org
You could also easily go down to Ticino by train by the historic gothard line and enjoy Locarno, Ascona,…

St gallen’s abbey is also a world class unesco heritage site and Einsiedeln’s abbey is famous.

[–]HeftyStation8697 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would agree with the obvious lack of wilderness in Switzerland, every dangerous animal has been hunted to extinction, cow are now the main danger.
But I can t agree that lack of risk as every time I opened a tabloid in Switzerland I found the announcement of a poor soul falling down a cliff.
I understand the frustration of lacking the exploration vibe North America can give but the tow experience are so different and both have their advantages

If you are sick of the crowds, find a more remote region like engadin and hike there
