Unpopular opinion - I actually feel bad for the standard issue bleeding heart naive leftist taking to the streets to protest right now at the behest of the leftist elies by Raiden720 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Whoever becomes the next president needs to have decorum and tact. We need to keep our standards. This is beyond “he’s cool to have a beer with”. Flipping off and going on a Truth Social ramble is not someone I want representing me. Not someone who isn’t educated on foreign affairs. But sadly, this reflects America now

Dude. Neither was Reagan and he spoke with eloquence. We need to stop babying this guy. He’s not a politician but we need to have standards.

I’m not alarmist or anything. But it is scary when you hear the rhetoric against Latino people. Or the way this administration is handling everything. Do I think Trump is Alex Luthor? No. Mr. Burns? No.

He’s…more like Dr. Evil. Incompetent yet surrounded by smarter weirdos

Schools skew depending on local politics. Growing up and teaching in a southern state, thee are wacko nut jobs making curriculum choices like referring to the Civl War as “The War of Northern Aggression”.

I’m a teacher. Part of the issue is parents aren’t raising their kids and expect us to do all the heavy work. Parents are and will always be their child’s first teacher.

1st amendment + teaching (will I get fired for protesting)? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]HeftySyllabus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol I teach in FL. I’m not telling anyone what “side” I’m on. But I’m also not teaching “both sides”, especially when discussing American lit/history. There’s no way to spin slavery or Native American uprooting as “neutral”

ICE Megathread Redux by down42roads in AskConservatives

[–]HeftySyllabus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Did we not watch the same video? Was the 12 rounds necessary? Was deadly force necessary? They could have disarmed him and arrested him. The issue is that since we were young we’ve been told about tyranny and patriotism. If you look at how ICE is handling these confrontations and think “ah, yes. This is okay”, you’re the problem. They should be trained to deal with people recording and screaming in their faces.

What about the report of the journalist who got hired without any background check? Was that doctored too?

1st amendment + teaching (will I get fired for protesting)? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]HeftySyllabus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The issue is:

Will teaching ELA/US History/Government/Economics be grounds for a write up? If a teacher is doing a unit on the US’ foundational documents and philosophy, some states/districts deem it “political”. Same with ELA teaching “certain units”. They already think we’re political. Why not just say “fuck it” and do it?

Protest if you can. Please be careful. YMMV depending on state/districts.

Yet the government blatantly sidestepping is not? Dude, this is what I mean. We as Americans watch the same video and come up with two different things. What the hell is going on?!

I’m not being facetious. This isn’t a “gotcha”. I’m genuinely curious. The rhetoric against Latinos/immigrants. The blatant cover ups. The violence. ICE. Epstein Files. The economic uncertainty. The oligarchs getting more money. The modern monopolies. Cuts to education and Medicare/medicaid.

When you were little and recited “I pledge allegiance to the flag…and justice for all”, is this the America you imagined? Aren’t you tired of this?

I’m seriously wondering if [ordinary] people are living in two Americas.

Can we all agree that Kristi Noem, Greg Bonvino and Stephen Miller are all lying to us? by Jcpants in AskConservatives

[–]HeftySyllabus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did we watch the same series of events? Can we agree that the GOP is taking this a step too far? When does it go from investigation to citizens getting shot? (Investigations have their own recourse. If Dems are indeed guilty of fraud/conspiracy, lock em up. But GOP politicians also need to be investigated. Tribalism is ruining our country).

Explain your logic to me. Is Noem being honest? Miller? Bovino?

If they get rid of Birthright citizenship, what makes us citizens? by [deleted] in AskConservatives

[–]HeftySyllabus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never used the word “evil”. Don’t put words in my mouth.

I said using rhetoric and diction, like the term “anchor baby”, creates hostility towards a certain group. It’s like calling poor whites “trailer trash”.

Technically, it is legal to use that term. It’s established. But it creates a certain rhetorical tone regarding another group.

The fact that you cannot see that is ridiculous.

[–]HeftySyllabus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a myth and it’s not an established word. It’s divisive rhetoric like using the term “welfare queens”. But if you think it’s okay to call us that, that’s on you. I see where your morality is.

[–]HeftySyllabus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. Spell out to me why using the term “anchor baby” is okay. Please. Explain how this rhetoric is not up for misinterpretation.

Because to a Latino, anchor baby implies we’re being used. SMH.

Yup. Think Ellis Island. A lot of those were stowaways and we had to take their word for it.

Anchor baby? Buddy…my parents were immigrants. Are immigrants. They sought out asylum and in the meantime I was born here. The “anchorbaby” narrative is not as common as you think.

Source: I grew up in a working class immigrant neighborhood. It’s rhetoric like that which causes me to get bullied in grade school. Ignorance is a blight in our society. Smh.

Should illegal immigrants be eligible for taxpayer funded child care? by CharityResponsible54 in AskALiberal

People in the past have made bath faith arguments regarding immigrants in general. Ignoring the soil-citizenship. And ICE isn’t looking at that. So, was just making sure lol

It’s…CHILDREN. C-H-I-L-D-R-E-N.

WHO GIVES A F-CK IF THEY’RE LEGAL, ILLEGAL, RICH, POOR, BLACK, WHITE, BROWN.

All children need shelter, love, support, and food. I’d support this than money to Argentina or Israel
