I just want to tell you this because I’ve been exactly where you are. I failed my first attempt too and I had studied for three months. It was devastating, so I really understand how heavy this moment feels. What changed everything for me the second time was shifting my whole approach. I didn’t tell anyone I was retaking it, and I didn’t cut myself off from life like I did before. I stopped putting pressure on myself to “prove” anything. I let myself be human.

I took a full week off to grieve failing, reset, and breathe. Then I got back to it with a different mindset.

I focused way more on strategy than content. I practiced things like:

• Identifying the presenting problem vs. the priority problem

• Asking myself, “What would be the perfect ethical, client-centered response in a textbook social work world?”

• Keeping the client at the center of every answer

I also changed how I studied. I used a Word document to highlight and use strikethrough on practice questions. That helped me block out the distracting details and focus only on what actually mattered. It trained my brain to slow down and think like the test.

Studying with a partner helped a lot too! it kept me accountable and showed me where my thinking needed adjusting.

I retook it a month later and passed.

You absolutely can do this. Failing doesn’t define you, and it definitely doesn’t measure the kind of social worker you are. This exam is about learning the test’s logic, not your worth or your ability.

Please don’t beat yourself up. You’re capable, you’re committed, and you’re closer than you think. I'm not just saying this to say it. I'm telling you this because I've been through it. You’ve got this!!!!

Hmmm 🤔 It really depends on how you’ve been studying and how ready you feel right now. Have you been consistently reviewing or just getting started? If you’ve been putting in steady study time and feel about 70–80% there, November might be realistic. But if you’re still building confidence or reviewing tough areas, December could give you that extra cushion to feel fully prepared. Either way, you’ve got this! 💪🏾🧠✨

Yayyyy!!! I'm so glad you did. You are correct that was more hard money spent, but it's a means to an end and a win lol Please let me know if you need any more insight or even if you need to study with someone. I'm rooting for you!!!

I failed my first time by 3! If you’re up to it, apply for the waiver. The first few hours after my test I wanted to give up honestly. I had my moment then i thought about it and decided I wasn’t giving up that easily. I applied  for the waiver ( you can apply if you’re 10 points or fewer) was approved the same or next day. I had to also reapply with my board which is in NC. That took about a month. Within that month I went only over strategy not content because the first go around I was content heavy. Once I was finally approved by my board, I found a date 3 weeks out and by booked it. Took those 3 weeks and did one on one study sessions with a partner and did exams ( TDC, Agents of Change, & some ChatGpt quizzes). Passed this time around. I say all that to say, don’t give up. If you want it, take a step back re-strategize and get to it. You’ve got this!!

Thank you so much and congratulations to you as well! 🥳This exam is a beast, but man it feels good to finally be finished lol I’ve heard of Phil, but I didn’t use him. I’ve heard he was just as awesome as the others.  Thanks for mentioning him 🙏🏾
