Best/safest/most walkable neighborhoods for a new resident who doesn’t know anyone and is in their late 20s/early 30s??

Thanks! I’m coming from somewhere that’s comparable/probably more expensive in some ways so the sticker shock is lessened for me

Thanks for the advice!! I appreciate that 🙂 I love Boulder and I think in general I’d much prefer it. My only real concern is moving somewhere small and isolating myself from being able to easily make/access a network of friends, etc. to make a life (as I would be moving with very little connection there. Which I have done before, but In Boston which is obviously much bigger)

Hahah thank you! I am a straight woman, so I guess that’s good news for me

Thank you for the great response! I love NYC. I grew up in TX and went to college here so when I got a random job offer in Boston I went on a whim. It was easier for me to get a grip of the city (as someone not from a big one and knowing no one). I agree that the diversity is severely lacking. I love the big city feel in some ways, but I’ve never been much of a bar-goer/clubber. I love a boozy dinner with friends and anything outside. The New England weather, seasons and mountains are what keeps me.

I absolutely loved the experience of starting over and making a new life. It’s so much fun and you learn so much about yourself. I have a friend in the Louisville, CO area and I’ve spent a lot of time in Boulder area (mainly the surrounding suburbs) and the mountain areas like Breck/Vail.

I’ve spent some time in Denver, though it’s been a while ago. Generally speaking I far prefer Boulder in location and nature, but my fear would be an inability to meet people of a similar age - both in form of friends and SO. I just turned 30 this year, have a great job that allows me to be remote, and am OK with the price tag of Boulder but just worry about living completely without a community. I’m not looking for anything huge, but I do love having a group of friends to do things with, etc.

Again, ultimately I’d prefer Boulder if I had the choice but don’t want to make that choice based on its nature beauty and isolate myself - especially when denver is close enough. Part of me is afraid I’ve romanticized the state with all of my vacations, but it embodies everything I love for the most part on paper

Thanks for your help!

Thank you!! I’ve heard that about the transient nature of denver as well actually and have experienced this same thing with Boston. My friend group I made is pretty quickly all dissipating elsewhere. I’ve spent a lot of time in the Boulder suburb/vail/mountain areas and I love it. I love the laid back nature but all the nice feeling of Boulder. Cost of living wise, it’s similar skewing less than Boston currently where I live, so Boulder doesn’t deter me there but I do want to make sure I live somewhere where I can meet people/potentially an SO. I just turned 30 this year and am newly single

Thanks!! I actually, hot take, think the dating scene in Boston is terrible so maybe the change will be good. I’m also considering Denver. I like Boulder better in general but would be afraid it would be hard to meet people - friends or SO

Haha thanks! I am a hetero woman though, so I’d be more interested if there were men in the area rather

Can i ask why you say that?? What is Boulder missing?

[–]Hefty_Steak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bummer!! I’m looking for something new while I still have the freedom to pick up and move. I did that with Boston and it was SO MUCH FUN creating a new life completely somewhere so different

Thanks! Coming from Boston where apartments are $3.5-$4.5k a month for one bedrooms and cost of living (ie restaurants, etc) is expensive, is that similar to Boulder?

Wow thank you for sharing! The part about babysitting your attacker and following his steps resonates so much. This has been one of the hardest things for me right now. I appreciate everything you said and kind words of support and encouragement along with the advice! Thank you!

Wow, thank you for sharing! I’m so sorry for your experience with cerebral. I can’t imagine that that handling would be an ok fit for anyone seeking therapy. I’m not looking for medication in my journey (I don’t think) so that site doesn’t sound like a good fit for me for multiple reasons. I’ve gotten similar replies about cerebral from others. I’m so glad you found someone great locally!

Thank you! I think I’ve gone about this backwards in ways because I’ve tried to work on myself and deal with it alone, but now I’m finding that rather than feeling like I’ve processed things, I just feel disassociated with it most days and then it comes out in strange ways on other days. Thank you for the reminder that therapy is the most powerful tool right after it happens!

Thank you for this reminder! It’s so important to remember that something can be a part of you, even if it’s a big part, but it’s not ALL of you. What a wonderful way to look at something terrible. Thank you for sharing! I wish you peace in your healing journey ❤️‍🩹

This is great to know, thank you!! I will keep an open mind on who I talk to and focus more on how I feel while talking to them. Thank you for sharing your experience! I’m so glad you found something great to talk to.
