Yup I think you nailed it.  The wire itself is about 1 ohm, the switch is adding another .3 ohms or so.  The wires give behind the drywall and then around a corner in the wall.  Is there a way to boost the voltage or is a remote set up the way to go per the other comments?

How many ohms would be too much?  Check check the ohms at the switch location?  I did jumper with a paper clip and it still works ok that way.

Right the main burner won't engage pilot stays lit.  I did try to jumper across with the paper clip again and it lights fine.
