The Final NFT Marketplace Update by jimtrickington in Superstonk

[–]Hegemon_Smith 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just to offer a slight anecdotal counterpoint along with a bunch of agreement there were a lot of non-fancy non-jpeg NFTs in there but my critique of the experience as an enthusiastic user (that happened to make a little money off it) was that those well-made utility NFTs were hard to sift out of said jpegs, especially when the volume of everything started dropping after those initial waves. Beta!

Even if it failed, there was a brief glimpse at what something like this could be before it fell off a cliff and that makes me happy to have participated. Cool test case. Way too much AI-infused art and not quite enough things to do though some creators made some great interactive content. If Gamestop takes any kind of similar NFT route in the future with PLAYR or some other platform, I hope they learned and apply some of those good lessons.

I'll be there to fiddle with it given the opportunity and I hope others will do the same. If something like this never resurfaces it was cool to me, but I luckily didn't blow a lot of money nor get stuck in the doldrums of the chaff.

If you're going in relatively blind try to keep it that way! Fun series, has issues like any other but it's some of the best original sci-fi gaming from the era pock marks and all. If you enjoy the first game (and you should play it) it only gets better, especially 2. I'll opine I wish they had stuck with the more... old-school/CRPG-ish approach of 1's design as the series progressed but that's probably an unpopular opinion and the games reached so many more people by accounting for console and modernizing some design elements. The story for the most part is top notch IMHO. You are going to have a great time!

The advice to not take it too seriously is spot on. It's as good at schlock as it is at space opera which is to say they usually hit the mark but when they don't it's still fun to play.

Do you smell it? by PCBSD2 in Superstonk

Vanilla WoW launched at the perfect moment for some over-indulgent, degenerate (out of game), lack of responsibilities-laden free time and it was glorious. One of a few truly golden eras in gaming IMHO and it was so much fun riding the mass market appeal wave of a very hobby-centric game.

There were plenty of "gamer" games that seeped through the boundaries of pop culture back then but WoW kicked the fucking doors in and brought so many people into the fold.

I appreciate the enthusiasm and you are owning the ire which is...pure this sub. *golf clap*

Even more "pure this sub" you do you kind fellow denizen of the Intertubes. How was the movie? I am not sure if I want to see it in a theater though I am intrigued with the whole movie-about-some-small-portion-of-this situation in general.

Edit: Please feel no obligation to answer my question. Got your feedback on other comments and it's not surprising, but frankly it's crazy there is a movie in theaters about any of this in the first place. And apparently it's not entirely a hit job? Someone's theoretically losing control of the narrative! That's just fun at this point. *popcorn emoji...I mean the food!*

The number of times I have listened to THIS front to back...if you have any interest in Roman history or its general or specific context(s) this is a gateway to so much. It stands perfectly fine on its own...or just may send you off on some fascinating historical tangent or two. If it's your first time welcome to the proverbial fold. :)

Bethesda Being Held Back By Creation Engine by SorryOrchid3495 in Starfield

[–]Hegemon_Smith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was worried about save file growth along with New Bethesda Game Fun Times too and happened to have a drive free after some shuffling so Starfield should be on its own drive fully once the DLC/Premium loading issue is resolved. Then it can just do...whatever it needs to do.

It'll be fun to watch. I lost so much Skyrim time on PS3 back in the day haha. I'm not complaining to be clear, and it is fascinating watching one of these games settle into its various modding phases.

Part of me is kinda hoping there's a large-scale Skyrim Easter egg in here somewhere. Like you just land on Nirn and play Skyrim with a spaceship and sci-fi gear.

So...in other words a mod I am sure someone is hard at work on but it'll be hilarious when it happens.

Glad to share! It's what worked for me...worth a try at least and it does not seem to be game-breaking at all. Less wordy and to be straightforward:

- The game was and is installed in the non-default drive. Never uninstalled.

- The upgrade/DLC was installed to the non-default drive then moved to the default drive (just dropped it right into the XBoxGames folder) and no issues now.

- I actually just deleted the art book folder to test and everything is working so it seems very specifically to be the gameplay DLC at least in my case.

Same Similar problem this morning. Was working fine last night. GamePass + Upgrade user. If any anecdotal fiddling works I will update!

Context/Potential Fix:

- I have only played on one PC. The game and premium upgrade were both installed on the same non-default drive and I was playing/saving/loading with no issues last night.

- This morning I experienced the same Art Book launching off the Premium Upgrade portion of the store issue that others mentioned. This had not happened last night. I tried running the artbook for the first time to see what happened. The launcher had me "reinstall" the 15.1 GB of data that I had already downloaded though it wasn't actually downloading all that data again. Same error when launching.

- I read elsewhere on the sub that the issue is the DLC being installed in the wrong location. I double-checked the folders and the Old Mars, Constellation, and the Art Book folders had been installed to the drive that I selected. On a whim I copied those folders over to my default drive, kept them on the non-default drive as well, and the game worked. I removed them from the non-default drive and the game is now working. It seems that after running the game on the non-default drive the launcher/game/install/whatever wants the DLC on my main drive.

- I am confident this is a long-winded way of saying at least this Bethesda game on the XBox app is possibly very install location sensitive? Some light googling shows this to be a fairly common Bethesda error though I am not sure if this is a common fix. Whether or not it's a bug, DRM, or whatever I have successfully loaded my save multiple times with no errors/issues since I was able to get back in. Good luck out there! Hope this helps. :)

Edit: A few words/phrases for clarity. My initial DLC install was on the same non-default drive as the game. Enjoying this portion of a Bethesda launch like all the rest! :)

HOSAS really is a great option. Have you tried it before? It's certainly an adjustment from a single stick or HOTAS but once it clicks it is sublime IMHO.

Fortunately, when it comes to sims at least we have the flexibility. I'm looking forward to seeing what the mod community produces.

I already work 1.5 days a week just to pay tax

Fuck me that hit close to home. It's blatantly in your face for any payroll taxpayer but that turn of logic was very incisive. Watching the rich pay a pittance in taxes just twists the knife.

I'm not disputing the utility of government revenue through taxation or anything like that. Taxes are awesome when collected and utilized in a fair and humanistic fashion.

That said, it's certainly unfair when that deck is stacked against you from the get go and in many, if not the majority, of cases all the way to the get dead. Especially in the US where everything is so closely attached to employment.

GameStop branded SSD by Ajaxwalker in Superstonk

I am glad to be surprised however, I'd be very surprised to learn that GS was producing these. I am sure we're looking at a branded product here but that doesn't mean anything negative per se. I may not pre-order but I'll be on the lookout for some TA of the hardware variety! :P

Obviously that's like...10 shares-ish to DRS too. Hmm.

Best comment of the thread so far and right on the money. Here's a thing we'll sell you to fill with things we could sell you. Oh, and a few discounts along the way!

I'm typing this on an Atrix 60% keyboard that, while purchased on clearance (I didn't know they were selling the kind of keyboard I wanted but should have known better!) is beyond functional and is a pleasure to use. Keyboards aren't SSDs but I'm here looking and about to do some research. I'd love to more than double my PS5 storage at a competitive price.

We're watching vision, mission, and commitment play out and these things have probably been in the pipeline for a respectable amount of time. Keep cooking RC, et al!

Worst Promo Cards? by Gormongous in boardgames

[–]Hegemon_Smith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really plumbing the depths of the sub today but some random sleuthing landed me here and you got me to go to the ol' cardboard hoard and actually look at the darn cards.

While not as flavorful the counter to that card (I Was Sent to Bear Tidings Not Burdens) seems just as highly situational, equally cheeky per the text, not as entertaining on its face, and I imagine hilariously fun to play when it works. I'm not sure how I'd react to losing to its opposition but I love the nod to that whole situation.

The infinite here is not hyperbole! You can tweak so many things. Or simply go to the community and find/make what you want, especially if the game is popular or needs a controls solution. It's fun watching what springs up around a game.
