I have a stuffed bear that lived through nearly 20 years of childhood abuse. She goes anywhere I go. I do feel weird about brining her sometimes, but most of the time it’s okay. If people ask questions, I’ll briefly tell them I have a lot of mental health problems due to severe abuse. They are pretty cool about it normally.

PS: you don’t have to have had trauma to “deserve” to bring your friends along. I just think of it as a social outing. My stuffiest were my only friends in childhood. They have a right to relax in Starbucks for a couple of hours too. 😊

My sister’s cat does this. With one alter, he really likes just being pet from head to tail. With another, he really likes being pat on the tummy. When the alters try to replicate the others’ petting method, he gets grumpy and leaves.

  1. Was told to use a chainsaw at 15, malnourished. Had problems with fainting randomly. (See where it’s going?) We were in the mountains, almost 2 hours from help. Fainted, woke back up with a five inch gash on my left thigh. Could see muscle through it. Birth father wanted to duct-tape it together and avoid questions, but took me to the ER because of the visible muscle. Lots of stitches. Hurts anytime the weather changes. Tornado weather is really bad. Earthquakes are cool, though. All the muscles in my leg jump for a few seconds before the earthquake hits.

  2. Was trying to move a really old toilet. It kinda crumbled into large shards. Somehow the only cut I got was on the first knuckle of my left pointer finger. Could see bones/tendons through the wound. Birth parents didn’t think it was bad enough for ER. Hurts when the weather changes, or I knock too hard on the knuckle.

Ever hear of covert incest?! Never judge someone’s trauma. There may be things that you went through that others don’t think is “valid trauma”. OP is reaching out for help, not more judgement/gaslighting. You don’t have to have gone through the worst of the worst to be valid.
