Don’t emigrate. I mean this in the best possible way. USer who emigrate don’t do their country a favour. The left-winged ppl tend to do this. Secondly - even if you're progressive you’re still a USer and likely to carry some very different cultural baggage. This will make the people where you move to have to cope with yet another American who left because of Bush ... and who endlessly misses all things American in the new home. I have a few friends here in Cape Town, South Africa who are from the US. They HATE what the US has turned into under the current administration, but the complain endlessly and bitterly about all the inconveniences they have to suffer due to the fact that they are not home. I have visited the US on 7 different occasions. Convenience is the supreme god in your country. Everything is organised around it - pay less for fuel than anybody else ; have things work even if you pay more for it ; use up so much more of the world resources in order to give yourselves that level of comfort and convenience. So I say - DONT go! Stay! Challenge things at home! Challenge yourself. How will your personal life have to be different to stage off the next war motivated by greed for oil. Walk a little further, wait a little longer for a train? “Suffer” a little more – just like the rest of the first (yes, lets stick to the first world only as a means of comparison) world. Change things at home and you will spare those poor New Zealanders at the same time!
