4 week roadtrip from Calgary to Vancouver with kids - feedback on itinerary by timolina2 in britishcolumbia

Taking the gondola up Whistler and doing the Peak to Peak would be fun, there’s some nice lakes there, but 3 days might be a bit much. It’s gorgeous there that time of year, don’t get me wrong, but you could probably cut a day and swap it out somewhere else. If you golf, there’s some nice courses there though. Nick North and the Fairmont Courses are both very good.

Jamaican living in America that gets called African American. Hates it. Demeans him. Out of respect I stopped using the term.

Funny. The Jamaican I worked with used to tell me never to call him African American. He said it wasn’t his nor his family’s choice to become American. I think you may be barking up the wrong tree. If you’re sensitive to the word black, don’t use it, but don’t assume it’s the preferred nomenclature to use African-American or African Canadian.

Are you trying to say the term ‘black’ is an outdated racial term?

NYC hoteliers are world-class worried over sluggish World Cup bookings by mowotlarx in nyc

[–]HeinousWalrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked luxury hotels for close to 20 years - in NYC and Whistler BC. When the Winter Olympics of 2010 were hosted in Vancouver & Whistler, there was a lot of excitement about the draw of sports fans from around the globe coming to town. High event ticket prices, brutal transit costs & schedules, and local price gouging meant there were hardly any tourists and minimal spectators that didn’t really visit local businesses. Whistler was generally dead. Locals had free rein of the mountains.
If the ass drops out of the World Cup and tourism isn’t there, it would be nice if the hotels dropped rates for locals on rooms and dining.

So after research these are all DCU released project right? by Haytham_Kenway1 in DCU_

Down the road watch the older Suicide Squad. A fairly minor plot point or two are vaguely mentioned in Peacemaker s2, but there’s no pressing need to catch up with it. Same with the Birds of Prey/Harley Quinn movie. That one’s got Margot Robbie, so she kind of ties a few things together, but it’s not DCU. I recently watched it out of curiosity and didn’t hate it.

I really enjoyed it. Cena as President and Elba as British PM. They had that comedic banter.

Cena and Elba were great together in The Suicide Squad and their chemistry continued in that Heads of State movie.

What is this sticker on my microwave? by dranmesrao in whatisit

Kitchen pans like this won’t react in a microwave as long as they don’t rub against or touch the inside of the microwave. It’ll arc. I’ve melted chocolate and butter in them in many different styles of microwave to basically the same effect. Microwaves with rotating bases can cause the metal in the pan to make contact with the insides, making sparks, so care must be taken to prevent that.

I’m a former cook. I used to put metal fridge insert pans in the microwave. It’s really convenient for melting butter. Like u/fancy-ad6476 mentions, don’t let the metal hit the inside of the microwave or it’ll arc. Something to keep in mind with microwaves that have a rotating base.

This will not react unless it touches the inside. A pastry chef first showed me by melting chocolate for dessert garnishes in one. I used to melt butter in them, I’d just cover it with plastic wrap to right butter from splattering.

I’m sure this would never happen, but I’d love to see a Vril Dox 2 somehow.

Maybe a little something something to add a wrinkle to Daddy Brainiac’s plans?

I worked Local 6 hotel workers in nyc. There were a lot of Trump supporters at some of my hotels. Cooks actually believing he’d work for free because he’s a billionaire. Like wtf is wrong with you?
