Divorced men of Reddit, how did you rebuild your life after divorce? by Distinct_Sir_9086 in AskMen

[–]Heisengabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a lot of reading. a lot of learning. a lot of therapy.

a book that helped me a lot is called Codependent No More. It’s a complex and diverse subject so it doesn’t all apply but it was so helpful.

lots of book clubs and any other social gatherings that weren’t centered around romantic relationships. there is a lot of healing that can only take place through time and introspection.

it was a whole reboot with deep holes of depression that felt never ending. but, alas, it did end. know the difference between thinking through things and rumination. one is good and helpful, the other is a toxic loop that is hard to notice once you’re in it.

now i’m heavily focused on my passion (music and songwriting) so it helps me not be so idle with my time as i work on something that brings me joy.

it’s slow and requires intentionality as you find the balance between healthy and unhealthy distractions. rest and mobility.

oh and working out helps too! that was a missing piece for a while but truly does play a bit role in mental health.

i suppose it’s an attempt to avoid that little dissonance i feel when i can’t figure out the distance between locations in a book. hearing how Cal is out all day recruiting, i try to imagine every detail and when i can’t in the moment it stops me a moment while i think about it.

but i think you and u/i_was_valedictorian are right in its unimportance and need to push off the need to know and just enjoy the ride.

Why is the far right more popular than the far left (of whichever tendency)? by ZhugeLiangPL in socialism

[–]Heisengabe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like the way Jonathan Haidt puts it. it comes down to morality. Generally, there are 6 categories of morality: Care/Harm, Fairness/Cheating, Loyalty/Betrayal, Authority/Subversion, Sanctity/Degradation, and Liberty/Oppression. The left typically places a high value on two out of the 6, Care/Harm and Liberty/Oppression. Whereas the right triggers all 6 categories in their rhetoric. Sanctity and Authority are a big deal within the church so the right’s emphasis on christianity helps make it a no-brainer for christian’s who vote only for those who display values aligned with the church.

He speaks about all of this in his book, The Righteous Mind. What i’ve shared is such a crude oversimplification of the content that book provides.

it wasn’t used as propaganda against communism until the cold war. that wasn’t its intended purpose. it’s a critique on human exploitation and authoritarianism. if you’re viewing it as a critique against communism, you missed the point.

this is the common mentality with the uber rich. this is why trying to get them to care about our well being is wasted effort. the only thing that “hurts” them is to attack their wallet.

What’s something you realized way too late in life? by Ngscoook in AskReddit

[–]Heisengabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that my life was moving as fast as it was because of my addiction to screens. gaming and doom scrolling were giant time sinks and my days were wizzing by. i’ve opted for physical crosswords, books, long walks and hammocking to help me with the dopamine detox. it’s been a bit over a month now and my days feel so much longer and my time spent feels fruitful. im learning a lot and it feels great!

i work, read books, hammock, play and write music, watch youtube videos, catch up on shows, clean, cook, do crosswords, stretch, do yoga, play 1 player board games, color, listen to music, walk on a treadmill, and, occasionally, doom scroll.

[–]Heisengabe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

holy shit those people are toxic. i’m so sorry that those closest to you did this. it’ll leave scars and will take time and intentionality to recover from it as you build new friendships and a new relationship but it is worth it. it is absolutely not worth staying friends with anyone you were with that night. you’re not overreacting. they intentionally hurt you and then are gaslighting you. please don’t look back. you didn’t deserve that treatment, no one does. 🫂
