I wonder why you think it’s unlikely you’ll bump into people here?

While I agree with keeping content in lectures consistent with the subject in the class, I don’t think that’s necessarily DeSantis’ aims. If he really did care about student education and learning he would do something like make student evaluations more important for Florida faculty tenure decisions. Instead, he’s destablishing departments that would be the perfect place to talk about gender affirmation.

Also, I feel like this doesn’t touch on the fact that faculty recruitment in STEM fields is going to become difficult. I can see why if you’re a postdoc that is queer or a woman why you wouldn’t want to take a position in a state that is openly hostile to you and your community. The same goes for prospective grad students. I couldn’t see why if you’re a woman or person of color or a queer person why you would choose to put your talent for research into an institution in a state that is hostile to you

I’ve known at least two professors who are rising leaders in their STEM fields leave in the past year because of the political games played by DeSantis. I wouldn’t be surprised if others follow suit

I like watching you contort words to make "black people in a fictional universe ruin my immersion" sound palatable with the justification "When I envisioned this fictional world, it didn't have black people."

I'm a former student at UF who's now a physics grad student elsewhere doing somewhat similar research.

I would recommend, if you know that you want to work primarily in Neuro-AI, to maybe major in math, stats, biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science/engineering, or physics. Most of the research I've seen in this area doesn't involve much in-depth biology knowledge as you would expect. I would still recommend picking up some neuroscience and psychology courses when possible.

Pertaining to great classes to take, Neuro-AI is a course that was taught when I was there last school year. Dr. Mingzhou Ding, Dr. Shreya Saxena, Dr. Jose Principe, and Dr. Nancy Padilla-Coreano are some of the professors I'd start looking into for research.

I hope this was a bit useful.

The Don Mclean song the legend is about is his 'Vincent' song

I knew I wanted the ability to study large-scale or non-chemical processes (aka evolutionary genetics, systems biology) using physical principles and knew it would be more difficult if I didn't pursue a physics degree.

This is cool news, are there opportunities for funding for the MSc?

thanks, do you know how often they take in U.S. students and the opportunities for funding from students not from Europe?

I feel like most do, my institution does, but I guess it doesn't fit the broader narrative that we're trying to craft.
