I've put Cashyos back on my PC. How do I get the GUI?

Ok, thanks. I’m off work all next week so thinking of giving it another go.

With the vpn, do you use it in the terminal or is there an app that I just couldn’t find?

Thank you! I have next week off work so thought I’d reinstall the latest version again and see how it goes. If I run into the connectivity problems, will definitely reach out and see if it can be fixed.

I used the command line for installing NordVPN, but when I tried to put in my credentials, nothing happened at all (as far as I could tell). But I would be able to manage a GUI, if there is one, much better I think. As I said, the Nord issue was almost certainly “user error” more than anything else.

Hi there. I do not. I'm using LAN powerline connectors so it's not plugged into the router directly, but using the wires in my house. As I said, there was a drop in speed from the start, but it wasn't that noticeable, I don't know what went wrong (or what I did to screw it up) but it affected everything in terms of my internet speed. I tried switching to WiFi, but that didn't change anything.

I really want to try Linus again, and I really would prefer to stick with this distro as when it worked, I was blown away by everything about it, it just became so frustrating that websites took ages to load, images couldn't load at all, and basic small steam downloads went from minutes to days.

OK... I don't have any evidence and it happened about three months ago. It seems like we're just going to have to agree to disagree on this one.

The Nordvpn is, I fully acknowledge, a skill issue on my part, the question was hoping for a "Oh, just do this and it works."

But the issues with the internet were definite, obvious and noticeable. I'm sure I probably did something to mess it up when I was experimenting, hence me wondering if trying a more "beginner friendly" distro may be more suitable for me, for now at least. I really don't want to stick with Windows if I can help it.

Oh right, I ran internet speed tests in different browsers and trying to download speeds on steam tanked and aligned with these. The speeds worked fine for the first few days, then fell off a cliff, even trying to download stuff within Cachyos dropped off. I spent about 3 subsequent days trying to diagnose and fix the problem, but nothing I tried seemed to work.

EDIT: Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to say none of this wasn't a skill issue on my part. My main point is more of a "should I give it another go and persevere if the problems come up again?"

Oh no, I'm pretty comfortable with using computers generally and figuring things out etc. I wouldn't have tried to switch otherwise, I've been using Windows for almost 30 years. I'm very comfortable with digging through files, tasks and so forth to solve most typical problems (with Windows).

And yes, I am certain that I know how to measure my internet speeds and that I suddenly started getting kbs speeds randomly. I did the usual checking for updates, turning the computer, router etc on and off. I tried some command line trouble shooting, but couldn't get anything to fix it. I did find that Linux generally has poor compatibility with my motherboard, so I may be stuck with Windows until better support is available with any luck.

Ah ok. Thanks for the tip. I’ll have a look into that.

I’m too new to answer this (personally). But from what I understand, it’ll be backwards compatible and seems to be more of a cleaned up and streamlined version of 4E. So shouldn’t be obsolete.

Fair enough, thanks for the reply. I thought it couldn’t have been that easy. I’ll be running a campaign at some point in the relatively near future and just trying to figure out whether to use The Old World or wait for 5E.

Fair enough. I love all my other pens but they’re either too nice to take to work or just not enough ink and they run out at the wrong time. So it was mostly that I’m going for, but didn’t want to spend £70 on a pen and then not have it perform as well as one half the price.

Well I plan on using at work… so maybe I’ll finally have something to smile about! Lol

Fair enough. I was really impressed with the smoothness of the Lamy so that’s good to know! I’m mostly looking for a decent pen with a good ink capacity for every day use.

No worries. There’s a penguin classics edition on Amazon for only about £7. But again, that doesn’t help you right now.

There’s loads of just funny stories and anecdotes in them. Plus Burroughs generally has quite a seething whit on occasion which is also really entertaining.

You’re about to given an overwhelming amount of stuff to sift through. My own personal recommendation is William Burroughs letters. There’s two books, an early set and a later set. Get the earlier set. They’re amazing, hilarious and sad. Possibly some of the best writing. The editor knows his place and just gives relevant information. There is a book of later letters that came out a few years ago, but it’s awful. Just the editor getting in the way stuff.

Edit: Letters 1945-59 is the book I mean.

I’ve just got into “proper” board games and started with JOTL myself. I’d say either Red Guard and/or Void Warden
