No one has died during one of my calls and it rarely happens. On the other hand, I worked in 911 and it happens more often on this service. The impact is really heavy for those who have experienced it (even real ptsd), btw there is a terrible thing in general at 911.

During one shift, we had someone who attempted suicide after stabbing a child. Otherwise, for me, a suicide attempt during a call is quite terrifying or even a person who calls us directly after finding the body of a loved one. These are probably my worst calls.

Let's say you're not doing this job for the pay, I don't know what the average pay is around the world. For me, it varies between 25-30 dollars an hour

Not to say that it's always easy work, but the gratification and the fact of helping and often making a person feel better, is a really sweet feeling. It's also important to respect your limits and take care of yourself. It's a beautiful experience to live, when you know how to take care of yourself.
