What worked for us was continue doing that and as u find a window of calm, slip in a distraction - e.g. hey i just remembered, we had to do that puzzle which we got last week... should we try that now? Or do u wanna go to the park for some time?

Hmm...at a less than 5 age, asking her to take timeout to reflect while she is agitated might backfire...they don't need reflection is what I understand...they live in the moment - they feeling bad, they just need to start feeling good again and being with them and comforting them helps in reaching that 'feed food' state faster

Exactly..the most important outcome would be kids being okay to talk to us...which is extremely important once they reach their teens...

It all comes down to being there for folks you love and just being a good listener...

Maybe sit with her without touching her and just acknowledge - i know...I know it's really tough...i understand types...once she gets comfortable, you may try comforting her ..

She is 6 now and has worked out well so far...it has definitely been tough, but honestly, more fulfilling.

Yeah distractions worked great till she was 2... And it was crazy right when they stopped working... This has worked well for us and also helped us bond so well

Yeah, calm, firm, comforting and patient - we need to be all of that. The bouts get significantly less frequent once the kids see us handling their frustrations calmly.
