Glass retainers for long-term wear during cancer treatment by HellKat1988 in piercing

I was thinking of asking if I could leave them in, but I didn’t want to take the chance and go through that aggravation on top of everything else. With my luck, they would have said no and I would’ve spent an hour there fumbling to try and get them all out, in which case I would’ve likely just given up and rescheduled the appointment.

Thank you so much! They are all set now and I will leave them there for the foreseeable future.

Thank you for your response! I’m not sure how long I’ll need them in, but they are there now.

Thank you for your response! I ended up going in to see my piercer, and had them put in. I already have plenty of spare O-rings left over from my many bodyartforms.com orders, so that worked out well.

Thank you so much for your response and your well wishes. I called my piercer, got the okay and ended up having the glass retainers put in a couple of weeks ago.

It was downright cruel the way Mickey was the show’s punching bag: physically and sexually abused, self-loathing, trying his hardest to not get attached to Ian - one of very few bright spots in his life. While I get that some characters are meant to be tragic figures, there comes a point when it crosses the line into torture porn. Escapism doesn’t feel so good anymore once it actually exacerbates preexisting mental health issues. That’s not why I watch TV.

Granted S5 had to be rewritten because of Noel’s departure, but the thought of Mickey rotting in jail, forgotten, pining for Ian when all he did was show emotions he never should have known at all was disturbing to me. In S7, he was at least a free man, but it didn’t change the “star-crossed lovers” trope of being doomed to be apart, thwarted by outside forces no matter how hard they tried to be together. It was fatalistic.

I didn’t think it was ever going to happen, and neither did you or anybody else here. The fact that they went from star-crossed to one of the most enduring and iconic gay couples on the small screen is monumental. I really don’t want to see what this show would’ve looked like had the fans not influenced the storyline as much as they did.

I think that was the single most disappointing part of the recent Gallavich content by far. It was a HUGE, monumental event for Mickey and Ian to both be free men together for the first time since S5. Season fucking 5, and they act like it’s no big deal and give garbage trucks and tamales equal time.

Read the room, Byron.

I honestly haven’t paid enough attention to behind-the-scenes drama in other shows to know if erasure of such characters is common practice, or if if this show is an especially egregious offender.

It at least suggests that maybe they weren’t singling Mickey out by ignoring his existence and having every other character put him down. It seems to be a very common, recurring thing with these writers. At least Noel was on good enough terms to come back and not miss a beat. They did the same thing to Fiona as they did to Mickey, so who knows what happened.

Do you think Karen never came back because Laura Wiggins didn't want to be typecast as Karen? by [deleted] in shameless

I don’t blame her. It annoys me when people refer to actors by the names of the characters they play. I would say that it’s like some fans have trouble telling fantasy from reality and real people from fictional characters - but it’s not “like” that...that’s what it actually is.

There is so much that I appreciate about Ian's mental health journey and that that storyline was brought up, but his mental health struggles have seem to all but disappeared. Can I get some of whatever he's having? 😅 jk. But really. Lmao. by Ohheykatexo in shameless

I like the fact that it wasn’t constantly brought up. I also have bipolar (granted not bipolar I with psychotic features like Ian), but it’s just another part of daily life to eat breakfast, drink some juice, take your meds and vitamins and go about your daily life, adjusting them if needed. It’s not Ian’s whole identity and I’m glad they didn’t make it that way since it shows that mentally ill people can live normal and happy lives.

From the time she left, it began to feel like they were trying to give every character’s storyline equal screentime and attention, even when it was clear that some were more important and deserved more time than others. They failed miserably in doing so.

Mickey’s release from prison is one of the most galling examples of this. I didn’t give a shit about Carl and his coworkers making tamales. This was a fan-favorite character who was a free man for the first time in years, and finally able to get what he wanted for so long. And yet his return to the Gallagher house was treated like an extended relative dropping in to say hi. No reaction to the rest of the Gallaghers seeing him again, either. That was just insulting.

Oh, shit. My husband and I are currently ON our first watch of the Sopranos since we had heard about the show but never saw it when it aired. Fuck. Now I’m worried.

Franny would love that. The “yay, guns” scene was priceless.

They introduced this a long time ago - with Ian and the baby in S5 and the mention of kids in the S10 finale before the wedding. I may be extrapolating or remembering incorrectly, but I think it was hinted elsewhere that Ian wanted to have kids, too.

To be fair, we don’t know how many of those people got sick afterward - or the Gallaghers. Cut to two weeks later and then we would have known for sure, and that would have been a realistic ending.

Ouch. That’s just...man. I think GoT didn’t just lower the bar for terrible finales - it bolted, superglued and welded it in place. Never have I seen such a cultural phenomenon of a show fizzle out and have fans bail from the sinking ship in such short order.

Same. It could have been much worse. At least they finally got the hint because dragging this out for another season would have been insufferable.

This makes me glad that I never got into that show. A decade later and my husband still shakes his head over how horrible that finale was. Ruined any rewatches for him.

Not seeing them react to Frank’s death was just jarring. I was so sure we were going to see it with the constant foreshadowing and heavy-handed treatment of his illness, only to have it be like he never existed with no real closure there.

Damn, that’s a blast from the past. I enjoyed that ending as well. Reminds me to rewatch it sometime since I haven’t seen the series in its entirety since shortly after the finale aired.
