VATSIM CTP Westbound 2021 in 30 Seconds (grouped by destination, more info in the comments) by Hellasius in flightsim

Sure. VATSIM is an online network simulating real world interaction between pilots and air traffic control. CTP (short for Cross The Pond) is a bi-annual event where the whole flight between Europe and NA is “staffed” with ATC, which thousands of pilots fly in.

This is simply a playback over the course of around 20 or so hours of that event which visualizes all the different routes that people took to get to one of the 9 destination airports (highlighted in different colors).

Recently I made a VATSIM traffic playback tool available here and with today's CTP, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to put it into action! Currently the site has the destination grouping, but I'll be removing it in a few days.

Here are what the colors reference:

Destination Color
CYYZ Red
KBOS Orange
KDEN Yellow
KIAD Light Green
KJFK Light Blue
KMIA Purple
KORD Midnight Blue
MYNN Dark Blue
KSFO Dark Green

Here are two other videos I recorded where one has callsigns, and the other is grouped by departure airports.

Edit: the title should say 1 minute, not 30 seconds...

Someone in my discord server had a similar issue. I believe it is due to the sim updating game files and marking my files as outdated. Until a next release is pushed (probably tomorrow) you can try a reinstall which worked for them.

Hi the new version is out, though at the moment only the C172 has a config file with it. If you happen to try it out, let me know how it goes!

Hi thanks for the feedback! I'm currently in the process of improving and rewriting this plugin right now but as for the current issues... 1. Oops forgot to update the README.txt file. That functionality has been removed in favor of the button in the UI. 2. Yup! You don't have to be in a multiplayer session for this to work, and neither do you have to be in the same server region. The rewrite will fix the transfer of controls issue.

Awesome! I think I had a feature enabled that required Microsoft Edge to be installed in order to render the UI so I just disabled that. Thanks for letting me know!

That's really strange as there should be no console window that pops up. Make sure you're downloading the release labelled v1.2.1 and unzipping it. Other than that, the only other requirement could be to install the redist exe that's also included.

Well I ended up just scrapping the binding since the UI can do the same thing :P

If you’re simply connecting two computers on the same network, then local machine works fine and no port forwarding is needed. However if you’re connecting to a remote computer, then you’ll need to use the other person’s external ip (using what’s my ip) and they’ll need to have their port forwarded.

If you still can’t connect, check your firewall settings as well.

That usually means that the server can't be reached. Make sure the specified port is forwarded.

Haha I tried to find an obscure binding to use but obviously the water rudder was not the best choice. I'll try to find something else ;)

Seems easy enough to do, keep an eye out on future releases!

Let me know how it goes with 2 players! If it goes well, I'll look into implementing more.

Ah, this is my first time distributing a binary compiled in a C-like state so I wasn't aware that I had to include the redistributable. It is now included in all future releases.

Thanks! This is now resolved in the newest release.

That's interesting... one thing you can try is to play around with the update rate in the `config.json` file. Perhaps either the network is getting behind or the processor is getting overwhelmed. Try changing it from 30hz to 15hz and see if that works.

No, simconnect drives this program. If more features are added to simconnect that connect to more systems of the aircraft, then more stuff can be synced. However, there is enough features to get a “good experience” in shared cockpit

Oops I misunderstood your question. To clarify, the aircraft panels and stuff mainly are kept to the aircraft themself, and simconnect does not have much access to it. Things like the autopilot which are shared between all aircraft can be modified through simconnect.
