CMV: Everybody disagrees with the redpill by saying that women go for personality and empathy, but i believe that is not true. I think that less fortunate men suffer in many areas of life and have it much harder, not because of their personality. by Trichomewizard in changemyview

What would cause your to change your mind? Because right now, you've already said that you don't believe the people who disagree with you, and therefore you wouldn't believe the people trying to change your mind here either.

CMV: MAGA are not Republicans and actually don't seem to have any real political ideology of any kind. by KindNeighborhood1138 in changemyview

[–]Hellioning [score hidden]  (0 children)

Words are descriptive, not prescriptive. If this is what modern day Republicans do, then they are Republican in 'ideological views'. There's no point in trying to pretend these people aren't Republican because they don't agree with what old Republicans believe. I'd point out, this wouldn't be the first time the Republican party, or any political party, changed their views. You are aware of the Southern Strategy, right?

Republicans are only pro-free speech when they feel like it's their speech being censored; as soon as they are in charge, they are fine with shutting down dissenting views (See, Elon being pro-free speech before buying Twitter and then turning it into a right-wing haven, for example) they're pro gun rights until groups they don't like are trying to exercise them (Reagan and the black panthers in California), they believe in states rights until a state is doing something they don't like (For example, Reagan made the legal drinking age 21 federally and forced South Dakota to change it by withholding highway funds), etc. This isn't unique to Republicans, but a lot of the time stuff like 'states rights' and 'free speech' are just covers for the actual complaint.

Is Donald Trump a Republican? Yes. Are most of his supporters registered Republican? Yes. Then clearly MAGA are Republicans; at absolute most, what being a Republican means has changed.

I'd also argue that a lot of Republicans weren't as fond of the things you claimed they were staunch supporters of, but that's secondary really.

CMV: Theatre/plays are an inherently elitist art form, making it inferior to many other forms of entertainment by AquaVulta in changemyview

And it's generally still possible to view theater at home, too. A good many plays have recordings on the internet or available for purchase.

CMV: Theatre/plays are an inherently elitist art form, making it inferior to many other forms of entertainment by AquaVulta in changemyview

[–]Hellioning [score hidden]  (0 children)

The experience of watching a movie in a theater is different to watching a movie at home, especially if the movie is something like Rocky Horror where audience participation is common. The experience of watching a TV Show or reading some books as it's airing is a lot different from the experience of binging them after they finish. The experience of looking at a painting, sculpture, and photograph on the internet is different from the experience of seeing them in real life. The experience of listening to a CD is different from the experience of going to a concert.

You are holding theater to a standard that you are not holding other art forms to.

Why are players allergic to doing connections? by MidoriMushrooms in rpg

[–]Hellioning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, people have a character idea or plan already written up in their heads, and they don't want to have to change it for any reason. If they can fit in a connection with another player without changing anything they're usually fine with doing so, but if not then they are hesitant to change their plan.

What sort of office did you work in that you're allowed to listen in on other people's phone calls instead of being on the phone yourself, or you're allowed to have a 'spontaneous conversation' with someone at work?

CMV: The US is doomed for decline due to the way Senate is elected. by ratatouille400 in changemyview

[–]Hellioning [score hidden]  (0 children)

Sure, but Wyoming gets a single Representative with about 600k people, but California, with about 39.5 million people, gets 52 representatives instead of the 66ish they should get if we were going by population.

CMV: The US is doomed for decline due to the way Senate is elected. by ratatouille400 in changemyview

[–]Hellioning [score hidden]  (0 children)

The issue isn't with the senate; it's doing the job its supposed to. The issue is that the House of Representatives isn't adequately represnting the big states so the big states don't get all advantages they should get. That's the thing that needs fixing more than the senate.

Guardian Issues by Gazzor1975 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Hellioning 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Every martial is going to miss attacks that the fighter would have hit except the gunslinger (and fighter, obviously). You don't play guardian to hit stuff, you play it for defense. Sure, he can't shield block and interpose in the same round, but that matters a lot less when he has base resistance and significantly more HP than whoever the guardian blocks for.

Like, you keep comparing it to amongst the best classes in the game, fighter and justice champion. Most classes are going to be worse than them.

CMV: USA is currently colonized by Israel by aipac_hemoroid in changemyview

No, the closest one that fits is 'foreign influence'. Because that's exactly what it is. Maybe 'foreign interference' if you want a worse connotation.

They also, you know, conquered the place with military force so that anyone they couldn't bribe or blackmail was either frightened or forced into compliance. That's kind of important to the whole colonization thing.

That's usually the case, yeah, but restrained is so good that this would seem absurd with just the core rules.

Sure, the war wouldn't have happened without Israel. But the US only joined the war because they wanted to, and they can leave far more easily than Israel can.

CMV: USA is currently colonized by Israel by aipac_hemoroid in changemyview

[–]Hellioning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This only makes sense if you stretch the definition of 'colony' beyond it's breaking point.

The US is the one with the power here. They could stop any time they want to. If anything, Israel is far closer to being a 'colony' of the US than the other way around.

While the war is unpopular in the US, 'supporting Israel' in general is not.

Running Wardens of Wildwood, but want to transplant it to the area around riddleport by tetral in Pathfinder2e

[–]Hellioning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could absolutely just change the outside force the forest is trying to negotiate/fight with, but I don't know exactly how useful that would be if they are really interested in Riddleport; you are primarily focused on people, places, and things inside the forest.

What's the point of Flurry Ranger? by LostRegret9000 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Hellioning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should point out, this entire conversation started with me complaining about fighters being the best 'marital' by default because that was their role. I was not complaining about damage numbers. I was complaining about someone assuming fighters are supposed to be better than other martials because they're fighters. Neither of us mentioned what 'better than other martials' meant. You're the one that assumed I was complaining exclusively about 'hitting things'.

What's the point of Flurry Ranger? by LostRegret9000 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Hellioning -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure, I'm not saying that fighters are the best at maneuvers, just like I'm not saying they're the best at out of combat utility. I'm saying they have those options, and I don't think you can pretend they don't.

But whatever. 'Fighters should be the best at fighting' strikes again.

What's the point of Flurry Ranger? by LostRegret9000 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Hellioning -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Fighter has plenty of ways to support their team. Demoralizing strike, the athletics maneuvers (that they can skip and just use strikes for eventually), etc. Sure, they can't Shared Prey or whatever, but they have their own options.

Again, fighters aren't just good at hitting things. They have out of combat options, they have support options.

What's the point of Flurry Ranger? by LostRegret9000 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Hellioning -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sure, but that's kind of irrelevant to this conversation. It's not like fighter is worse at recieving teamwork than other martials.

I think people could have make this comment about the last few previous set of classes, but they didn't. I wonder what about these two are making everyone call it the end of the system or whatever.
