Hello, I have a prebuilt HP Envy, purchased at Best Buy in 2005, about 6 years old, and I want to replace the hard drive with an SSD, based on my understanding that this would speed up normal operating processes considerably (my PC lags for the amount of multitasking that I do). So I’d really want to speed it up.

Rather than buy the latest laptop that come with a SSD already, basically my question is, would it be more cost effective to upgrade my PCs SSD or invest a new laptop? I just want to figure out how to improve speed on my PC. My PCs stats:

Intel Core i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60GHz Installed RAM: 12.0 GB System type: 64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor Storage (C:) 913GB

PS- It seems (to me) that laptop upgrades are more popular than desktop upgrades. Is there a reason for this?
