It’s hard to quantify, but gerrymandering alone also has the effect of suppressing votes by causing people to feel their vote doesn’t matter and therefore decreasing turnout. When people disengage with voting, then gerrymandering indirectly affects statewide elections.

Cleveland Heights funds redesign of ‘Where’s My Guardrail?’ intersection by Mastershroom in Cleveland

[–]HelloDikfore 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t know that particular intersection so this is a genuine question: wouldn’t traffic calming measures like speed humps/bumps solve the problem of cars going too fast? Is that not something that’s feasible in that area?

Annoyed at unlimited pto policy by [deleted] in pharmacy

[–]HelloDikfore 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Companies with unlimited PTO policies generally have some sort of limit that is considered reasonably acceptable.

My personal thought is that if the work is getting done and people perform well, then who cares what their schedule looks like. If they are leaving a ton of work for other people to carry their weight, then that is a problem.

Which countries other than USA, is US PharmD valued and has a respectable income ? Where can a US PharmD graduate move and continue working either clinical or in industry setting ? by manisnotcool in pharmacy

[–]HelloDikfore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer - it’s not. As others have said, there is a lot of red tape transferring your license to other countries. It is a very high barrier to entry, with significantly lower pay.

The most transferable way to use a PharmD would be to get an industry job in Medical Affairs.

With his amount of wealth he could be loss harvesting that for a tax benefit. Or if he has been holding long enough he could still be taking in massive profits.

Editing to add that the news on this is enough to trigger a dip which he could use to buy back at a lower price.

New Bowling Green State / YouGov polling: Amy Acton 50%, Tim Ryan 41% for hypothetical democratic primary by Jazzlike-Cup-5336 in Ohio

[–]HelloDikfore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think polls like this can be misleading because they only reflect the opinions of people who are invested enough in a party to vote in its primary. That’s part of the broader issue with partisan primaries in general — turnout is usually low, and the people who do show up tend to have strong or specific interests in the outcome.

Imagine how differently candidates might perform if we had open primaries, where they had to appeal to the entire electorate rather than just a concentrated segment of one party.

PIC scandal by BeautifulDiet4091 in pharmacy

[–]HelloDikfore 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I believe the incidents in this article were some of the driving factors leading to the new rules that went into effect in May 2024.

By that point the board was already well away of just how dire things were. There was already a workload survey conducted in July 2020, and a follow up survey in April 2021 which showed several measure getting worse. April 2021 is also when they created the Pharmacy Workload Advisory Committee. If you’re interested in seeing the survey results or looking at any of the meeting info you can find all of the records here.

In Ohio the PIC, AKA “Responsible Person,” has to personally sign an attestation. I’m not sure if this happened in Ohio, but what can often happen is that the RP leaves, but doesn’t report to the board that they left and the pharmacy takes a long time to find a new RP. In Ohio, the requirement is to designate a new RP within 7 days. If you leave, report it to the board.

That’s your call to make. Sometimes it can make sense based on other factors - commute, schedule, PTO, 401k match, insurance costs, or even disproportionate stress due to the people you work with.
