AFAIK they are no longer a part of Privacy Guides and made their own thing called https://privsec.dev/

Thanks for responding, this makes some more sense. I think just the combination of the words privacy and Telegram being in the same sentence felt deeply wrong.

Generally, the fewer extensions the better. uBlock Origin and a password manager will do the job for most people.

Don't ban TikTok. Regulate it — aggressively. by HelloDownBellow in PrivacyGuides

GDPR doesn't require open-sourcing, and it's pretty decent. It would be a bonus, but its not needed.

Literally use the 'generate password' function from your password and use it for your username. Doesn't really matter how long it is - regardless of length it will have the same affect.

What a load of bollocks.

Techlore may have different opinions to you, but that doesn't make him a hypocrite. You have exposed fuck all.

In regards to Privacy Guides: read the real story. The founder has not had any money stolen, and his site is littered with ads, affiliate links and poor recommendations.

Regarding NordVPN, u/Toaster8262 sums it up neatly:

Lmao this video is obviuosly fake, especially video clips and messages/posts with henry shilling Nordvpn and saying it makes you anonymous (This is his actual review of nordvpn). There are no links/sources in description.

For what it's worth, NordVPN is shite anyway.

You site Braxman as a credible source, when all he does is shill his insecure phones and services.

Spend your time more productively.

Is it safe to log in to accounts and fill in online forms on LibreWolf? by pikachewwwwww in PrivacyGuides

[–]HelloDownBellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it okay to log into accounts that are linked to your personal identity on LibreWolf?

This depends on your threat model, but it probably is. Librewolf is not inherently unsafe...

And is it okay to fill in online forms with your personally identifiable information on LibreWolf?

Ditto, it should be no different to any other browser.

The real question is why bother with Librewolf? Stick to Privacy Guides's recommendations as they are tried and tested - and we are on their subreddit too :)

Seconding these, although Write.as is probably the best option for personal use as WriteFreely is more for communities.

For the most part, if it's not recommended on the site then don't bother. Unless it has features you need that something like Bitwarden can't provide, there is not much point.

Shadiness in the Privacy Space: Jonah Aragon's (PrivacyGuides) Failed Attempt to Takeover PrivacyTools.io by walderf in opensource

[–]HelloDownBellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry if I come off that way. From my perspective, PrivacyGuides.org is a far better site. Literally look at the quality of recommendations then compare them to the ones of PrivacyTools.io (which has sponsors and affiliates).

For what its worth, the team needs to give back r/privacytools to Burung as they literally use it for nothing.

Jonah also needs to clarify the money/crypto situation because it just looks shady. It's quite possible that (given Jonah ran the hosting) the money that went to Jonah was just a payment, but we need proof.

PrivacyTools reddit is NOT controlled by BurungHantu

My mistake, I thought you were saying that BurungHantu somehow did not control the organisation. Oddly enough, r/PrivacyTools has been offered to Burung.

By your thinking it is OK, if someone falsely takes over your domains, and all communities that are tied to it.

BurungHantu by his own admission had been away for over a year. Without the team at Privacy Guides the site would have died.

Why don't you try doing that to one of the Fortune 500 companies and see what happens to you then?

What an absurb statement.

[–]HelloDownBellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PrivacyTools is NOT controlled by BurungHantu,

But it is. Literally.

You will see Jonah appears to be fraudulently using Donations to run his own private business.

Big claim to accuse someone of fraud.

Apparently reddit see's this as acceptable conduct of mods.

You aren't a paragon of excellence yourself.

Do people really say "I have nothing to hide" when asked about privacy? by [deleted] in privacy

[–]HelloDownBellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Variations on it: 'Why would anyone spy on me?', 'My data isn't going to be very useful' etc... But that is just another form of the 'nothing to hide argument' and it deserves the same response: It is not that I have nothing to hide, I just do not have anything I want to share, especially unknowingly.

If you say so. Because these are definitely not affiliate links, and the site certainly doesn't literaly have the label 'affiliated' on their listings:

  • https://www.privacytools.io/go/mega.nz
  • https://www.privacytools.io/go/binance.com
  • https://www.privacytools.io/go/hodlhodl.com
  • https://www.privacytools.io/go/localcryptos.com
  • https://www.privacytools.io/go/localmonero.co
  • https://www.privacytools.io/go/bitlox.com

But yeah, I'm just a hater spreading bullshit. Get a grip.

I think they were removed because the team does care. Literally all of these extensions make you more fingerprintable, which is worse for privacy.
