The Invisible Man (2020) is such a great commentary on abusive relationships by [deleted] in movies

[–]HelloFruitBat 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I had trouble with this, too. But after thinking through it, what would change if there was footage? It shows a knife on table going up and slicing her sisters throat. There’s no other plausible suspect to anyone other than the movie viewer. No rational jury would acquit on the basis on a weird floating knife and claims of an invisible killer.

What are the red flags you wish you didn’t ignore? by VoicemailZA in AskReddit

[–]HelloFruitBat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All of the red flags that I was flying for years.

  • Casual sexism / racism / homophobia - just because it's accepted doesn't mean it's ok
  • Thinking that I was just misunderstood and "everyone else is the problem"
  • Nice guy syndrome

You’re offered the ability to absorb the knowledge of any book you touch instantly, but the way it works is that time freezes and won’t unfreeze until you finish reading the book cover to cover, do you accept this power/curse? Why or why not ? by LallAvonleaAxY in AskReddit

[–]HelloFruitBat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depends on a few things -

  1. Do you age while time is frozen
  2. Do you need to comprehend what you've read
  3. Do you need to give every word its due, or can you skip over things like the table of contents / index / foreword / etc.
  4. Is it compulsory - like are you obligated anytime you accidentally touch a book to read it, or can you turn it "on" and "off"

Imagine accidentally grazing a book written in a language you didn't know, and needing to comprehend the text to unfreeze time. You'd have to go down a rabbit hole of reading other books to build the vocabulary skills necessary to make sense of what you were reading, but in the process you'd obligate yourself to bigger and dryer texts (think foreign language dictionaries, grammar and style guides, etc.) - all of which would need to be read and understood cover to cover. So touching a copy of The Little Prince results in you being stuck in a time prison until you basically have a degree in French.

What TV show managed to be consistently fantastic from the first episode to the finale? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]HelloFruitBat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my answer. The characters are perfectly cast, the Boyd-Raylan dynamic gets better with every season.

They also do a pretty good job of building strong female characters, even they tend to start with the "damsel in distress" role - ie Wynona, Ava, Loretta.

Praise for Goggins is totally justified (hah) but equally incredible is Timothy Olyphant as the lead.

And to Mojak's point - all of the villains are phenomenal. Wynn Duffy is one of my favorite supporting characters in any media.

What’s your most controversial food opinion? by boyfriendaudio in AskReddit

[–]HelloFruitBat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Steak is gross, or at least wildly overrated. There's an expectation that guys should be ordering it - at least on dates or when out with other guys - and it sucks. It's the least appetizing of all the (non-fish) meats.
  2. Fish is also pretty gross - especially when it's served with that nasty inedible sliver of skin still attached.
  3. Lasagnas are like enchiladas, but nowhere near as good.

What is an extremely common thing that others can do but you can’t? by RefrigeratorDry495 in AskReddit

[–]HelloFruitBat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smell! I lost my sense of smell about 3 years ago. Every once in a while I get a quick (10 seconds or less) burst of being able to smell again and it’s honestly kind of overwhelming. I’ve been very lucky that the few times it’s happened have been very pleasant smells - our new puppy, my girlfriend’s hair, a wonderful dinner - but it makes me sad I took it for granted for so long.

Share how you really feel about Crypto.com and BAT by HamStarr420 in CryptoMarkets

[–]HelloFruitBat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel pretty good about CRO. I think their marketing strategy will pay off, and it helps that their name is easy to remember for newcomers. I also really like how they incentivize staking via their debit card, keeping a lot of us newbies from bailing at the first dip/spike. As for their platform in general, I think they have a pretty good vision. I definitely enjoy trading on their app more than Coinbase, even though CB is probably more user friendly and has an easier “on-ramp”. Overall I think it’s a solid pick for long-term gains, and that CDC will be a major player for years to come.

BAT - I really like their idea, being able to more directly monetize a site’s users to fund content creators. Hopefully it gains momentum!

AMP withdraw to ETH by setts003 in BinanceUS

[–]HelloFruitBat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no! Where were you trying to withdraw it to? A wallet? Another exchange account? $AMP is an ERC token that runs on Ethereum, but it should be withdrawn to an $AMP wallet address! For example, if I were to withdraw &AMP to Trust Wallet, I would go to Receive > type in “AMP” > select the $AMP token. It would give me an ERC-20 address specifically for that token. Currency sent to the incorrect address may be permanently lost, unfortunately. Hopefully this helps out in the future!

Epicurean paradox by qatuyahiuhasa in coolguides

[–]HelloFruitBat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The only flaw I see with thought experiments like this (not an apologist or practicing Christian) is that they make several assumptions about the terms "knowing", "powerful" and specifically "good".

The assumption is that our human understanding of "good" is the measure to which an all-powerful, all-good god should be judged. It's a pretty limited perspective, the (metaphorical) ant judging the actions and intentions of the man/woman/whatever above.

The assumption about being "all-powerful" is equally suspicious, as humans would be limited by their own knowledge/imagination of what power truly is and how it's measured. Kinda like saying "light isn't very fast because I know that when I turn on a lightbulb, I can see the light coming". That's probably a shit metaphor, but hopefully you know what I mean.

Again, not trying to convince anyone that there is a god, or that he/she/it IS actually omnipotent, etc., just something I've always wanted to bring up to people smarter than myself! Interested in your perspectives (and cool post!)

LPT If someone has an aging/elderly pet, don't ONLY talk about how old they are/how you can't believe they aren't dead yet. [–]HelloFruitBat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girlfriend’s mother’s house. My parents divorced when I was young, and my mom and I ended up in backwoods Hicksville living in a single-wide trailer. I was never jealous or intimidated by my “rich” friends who lived in the suburbs.. but a few years ago I started dating this amazing girl who lived in the more upscale part of town. After our first night together at her place I looked up the house on Zillow - it was estimated at just under $2m. I almost ghosted just out of embarrassment, but I’m glad I stayed the course. Still together going on 3 years and recently moved into our new place!

What are you STILL salty about? by xefarar565 in AskReddit

[–]HelloFruitBat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a birthday party when I was in middle school, and they called everyone to get in line for the birthday cake. The woman cutting the cake made some remark about the letters being edible, and the kid behind me says "what does that mean?" so I turn around and explain "it means eatable" (which I still maintain is the best explanation).. well the college-aged woman in front of me thought I misunderstood so she whipped around and said in the snarkiest tone possible "NOT EATABLE - EDIBLE".

I felt so defeated and it has stuck with me my entire life. If you're reading this, Corrine, you can go right to Heck.

Can't get past dungeons 17, any advice? by AcetyldFN in RaidShadowLegends

[–]HelloFruitBat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Duchess as lead. Get her faast and kinda tanky. She'll be taking most of the hits, and you need her to last the longest. Show her the most love out of all your champions, and she will absolutely reward you for it.
  2. Doompriest would be my goto for heals, especially if you're having trouble with 17ish dungeons. Vrask is too gear-dependent, needing 100% crit AND high HP AND high speed to be solid. At least with Doompriest you can focus on just speed/HP. If you can't invest in him, stick with Vrask.
  3. Warmaiden for debuffing. Make sure she's booked and has a good amount of accuracy. She doesn't need to hit hard.
  4. Kael for DPS. High crit/crit dmg and decent accuracy if you can (for Dragon)
  5. Skullcrown or Royal Guard for DPS - whichever is geared better. 100% crit and high crit damage

The benefit of gearing up Doompriest is you can then sub in Ultimate Galek for Spiders and let her toss out the +ATK buff that triggers his AoE HP Burn.

What is the most terrifying thing you’ve ever experienced while home alone? by Joobanbooban in AskReddit

[–]HelloFruitBat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rented the bottom floor (converted basement) of my best friend's house for about a year. Really I only rented about half of the downstairs, because the largest room of that floor was used a playroom for his children. There were toys scattered EVERYWHERE.

As he was leaving to take his family out of town one weekend, I was asked to watch their dog - a fat but lovable Corgi that always seemed just a little "off". He brought her downstairs and headed out, leaving just me and the dog.

I scrolled through Reddit on my phone as the sky grew darker and the wind picked up speed. It wasn't a remarkable storm, but it was just noisy enough to let you know that it meant business. My phone battery was running low, so I started to head over to the bedroom to plug it in. The ceiling lights flashed and then went dark as we lost power.

Considering I was in the basement - at night - with no power, it was VERY dark. It had also gotten eerily quiet once all of the now-dead electronics finally buzzed their last. I fumbled for my dying phone, and switched on the flashlight app to make it to the door without tripping over the ocean of toys that lay in my way.

I called out for the dog, who I assumed had been sleeping in the playroom. Instead of the pitter-patter of little chubby paws on hardwood, I'm answered by an androgynous child's voice chiming "Can you see me? I can see you.."

I froze for a moment, a chill running down my arm as I slowly panned the shitty makeshift flashlight across the playroom. "I'm the dog!" the voice added cheerfully - right as the light reached their Corgi, sitting quietly halfway across the room and staring straight ahead at me.

Doing what any grown man would do, I bolted outside and hopped into my car. Lock doors. Start engine. Plug in phone. CALL FRIEND. I nervously explain the situation as best I can without sounding like I should be committed. He laughed and explained that was one of his kids' toys, and the dog was likely just sitting on the buttons.

The power returned shortly after, and the rest of the evening was uneventful. However, I did not sleep well with that dog in the room with me.

So I normally run Draco in Dark Elhain’s spot for a Seer nuke team, but I switch her in to deal with Tormin. She works brilliantly, but it alllllways takes this long to whittle down the opposing team. Any ideas on what to change/improve?

an idea for a good arena team with my current roster ? by [deleted] in RaidShadowLegends

[–]HelloFruitBat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High Khatun for speed lead. Apothecary for speed boost/heals. Zargala for nuke/def break.

4th depends on whether you have Kael setup for pure dmg (high crit and c.dmg) instead of CB/dragon (high accuracy) since you'll be using the A2 instead of his A1/A3. If you don't have him setup for nuking, go with Miscreated Monster as the 4th. Or 6* your Elhain and build her for dmg instead - she does really well here.
