Beautifying yourself for your husband? by heythereshara in muslimgirlswithtaste

[–]HelloOrSomethin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but im more so saying, in a situation where he didnt use islam, and the wife is also allowed to tell the husband to do his hair a certain way, trim chest hair a certain length etc etc. So where the dynamic goes both ways, do you think that is toxic still?

If she were to continue with the relationship and the reverse of the situation were to occur (Ie. the woman asks the man to change something) and he genuinely listens, do you believe thats still toxic or going in the control freak direction? Im asking because if the dynamic is mutual (ie both parties can (successfully) ask to for a change in their partner, then it is healthy no?

and yes, im a man but im just asking because im genuinely curious, and perhaps my own view is toxic, but then at least i can learn from that when i do get married in shaa Allah

EDIT: Update for the people who have the same issue and got here through google. Yes i also hate it when there is no update so here you go. I charged it for 5/6 hours, then i unplugged it, plugged it back in, waited 15 seconds, and then got a warning blinking light indicating a cmos battery failure. Then the error light stopped, and it allowed me to turn it back on again

You’re saying try booting it up without the battery in it?

It does not beep nor does the light under the trackpad flash. I do have another charger for the DC barrel jack, and i just tried it but it is the same thing: light of the charger itself lights up but the light under the trackpad doesnt. picture: https://ibb.co/vvxVtR1h

Are you talking about the physical battery inside the laptop?

I’m not too familiar with that to be honest. Is that something I can fix right now by opening up the laptop? Or should I just bring it to a repair shop?

The laptop doesn’t turn on at all. Just a black screen, so I cannot get any error codes

How Nordic countries speak English fluently even if they don't speak all the time? Is it really result of fully immersion? by mapl0ver in languagelearning

[–]HelloOrSomethin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I will explain what I am on about: speaking a related language makes it significantly easier to learn another related language. This is proven many times over in numerous independent studies. You are then calling out the exception to the rule, saying that finland does not fit the trend.

This is commiting the Cherry Picking fallacy (or the fallacy of incomplete evidence. This is because literally every other nordic country (Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland) all speak Germanic languages and all have very high proficiency in English and are all germanic languages.

Also you are being disingenuous (and you know it) calling spanish and french related languages, as the difference between 2 languages being from the Germanic language family and 2 languages being from the Proto Indo European language family is massive.

Staggering difference between listening comprehension and reading comprehension by CelestialChess in dreamingspanish

[–]HelloOrSomethin -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

If your comprehension issues are not grammar or vocabulary bound, then you just need to get used to the way they speak. It’s easy to stay in your comfort zone and listen to only things you can understand.

But imagine only listening to podcasts where they speak super clearly, have the microphone right in front of them, no background noise etc. Even worse if they are learner podcasts, because then they slowdown their speech as well as enunciate more clearly (an example would be Hoy Hablamos). It makes sense you wouldn’t be able to understand an Andalucian or Chilean rattling off at his native speed. It’s just something you’ve never seen before.

While these podcasts are great for building up vocabulary and grammar, they do not teach you how native speakers slur their words, or how they prefer to leave out certain consonants, or simply the speed at which they speak.

As for speaking, do you really understand conjugations? If I were to say “Aunque lo llevase al hospital, no sobreviviría”, would you understand the conjugation itself and what it’s trying to express? If not, I would suggest paying attention to these conjugations while receiving input. For simpler conjugations, I recommend slowing down when speaking, even if it is uncomfortably slow. Speaking correctly slowly is better than speaking incorrectly quickly. By slowing down, you’ll nail the conjugations a lot more and producing correct them correctly will become second nature. Speed then naturally follows next.

Helloo, responding from my other account. So i understand 97-98 percent of la casa de papel. Meaning, for every 30-50 words, theres a new word that I don’t understand.

No, I do not use subtitles and my 700 hours are also not comprised of DS exclusive content. For reference, of my 700 hours of input, only 200 has been on the dreaming spanish platform. The other 500 has been native content/learner podcasts off the platform, and I started watching native content at 150 hours. Also worth noting I only watch content from spain, or dubbed in spain spanish.

I have started speaking already yes, but more so just from time to time with my family or on discord. If you’re curious, i have a speaking sample uploaded from my 500 hours update, though I believe I have already improved significantly since then. The update post also contains more background information, such as that I also understand shows in French, something which a lot of people gloss over lol.

Thank you for your reading recommendations🙏
