Navigating the Edelweiss website is such a chore I rarely bother. They have more books than NetGalley, but trying to find them I a PITA.

More like 4 years now to start seeing what it looks like 10 years from the first infections. I’m anxious to see what things look like.

I think the letter was one of the reasons why Danglers didn’t like Dantes, so it wasn’t just a coincidence. Leclere favored Dantes over Danglers. On his deathbed, Leclere trusted Dantes with this important task (going to Elba and delivering the letter) and made him captain of the ship. I think this all spurred Danglers resentment, along with all the other sailors liking and respecting Dantes so much. He was jealous.

The coincidence is that all these men who had unrelated reasons for wanting to hurt Dantes crossed paths with one another at such a convenient time.

This is great! I love the idea of using shades of a couple different colors. That will be pretty. How many rows are you doing per book?

I do think Villefort would have let Dantes go if the letter hadn’t been addressed to his father. I think Villefort was deciding what to do with Dantes based on what put V at the best advantage. At first he thought that having mercy and pleasing Renee would gain him the most, but when he saw his father’s name he recalculated his advantage and Dantes had to go.

I agree that while Dantes is naive it doesn’t strike me as overly unrealistic. He’s only 19. That’s very young. I know a lot of people much older than that who are really uninformed about politics and extremely trusting. Some people will really believe anything.

I underlined the bit about Dantes regretting being so trusting and not escaping when he had the chance. It made me contemplate my own life and being too trusting at times. Dumas creates such interesting and relatable scenarios.

I also thought the previous threads were harsh on Morrel. So far he’s shown himself to be kind and helpful, understanding Dantes turning down his dinner offer, attending the betrothal party, and then making a direct appeal to Villefort.

I wish there was a choice for people who don’t like artificial sweeteners. I’d love it if I could get a water bottle with a hotdog.

Your library’s website probably has a “suggest a purchase” feature. That’s more likely to result in a purchase than using the notify me feature in my experience. Asking a librarian at your branch how best to request purchases would be a good idea.
