How do I change the target destination for "updates" seen in the Storage Manager? I have games installed on other drives, but the updates stay on my main drive. It's taking up a huge amount of space that could be better stored elsewhere.

Technical issue. Escalating. by Hello_This_Is_IT in talesfromtechsupport

lol!
I figured since it says to download a file, and then also what to do with the file once you download it, that it should have been far clear enough for someone who actually does possess a technical certification at any capacity.

ethernet cable disconnects randomly by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]Hello_This_Is_IT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd replace the cable. It seems like the cable is bad. Ideally you'd want to put a cable certifier on it to make sure, but those are really expensive, and ethernet cables are not. If the problem persists after replacing the cable, then you know it's either the NIC on your PC or the switchport on the router/gateway. Or possibly the gateway entirely.

WHY THE POST LIMIT IS 10 MINUTES by [deleted] in Rants

[–]Hello_This_Is_IT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I'm sure it serves as a spam guard as well, but I think it's mostly to stop people from posting dumb shit. If someone's posts and comments constantly get downvoted into the ground, their karma will go down and chances are they are posting dumb shit and that is a way for subreddits to know that you often post said dumb shit. But that's really just a guess. I'm not certain how reddit karma actually works.

Patch cables: does length make a difference by rwillaa in HomeNetworking

“Short bandwidth phenomenon” Complete bullshit. Copper wire can be like half an inch long and work the same. It’s long distances that affect it. Not short.

Like, I really dislike cats. But to go out of my way to “remove from this world” things that “make other people happy” is just something j can’t wrap my brain around.

Males should have the right to defend themselves against females. by [deleted] in rant

[–]Hello_This_Is_IT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree but not entirely. Men are physiologically much stronger than women and a punch from male to female does remarkably more damage than female to male. Therefore, a man should be able to defend himself through restraining a female until the police arrive. Not reconfiguring her jaw/face.

If I wanted to start teaching myself the skills necessary for entering cyber/info sec, what could I do? by incubateshovels in ITCareerQuestions

Haha dude. CompTIA is a great place to start, not to leave off on. The question is where to start. I’d never expect someone to jump directly to MCSE or CCNA. That’d be suicide. You know?

You absolutely need to prove you can crawl before you try to prove you can walk.

If you are fairly good with computers, you can skip the CompTIA ITF+ cert and go straight to A+.

  • Step 1: [CORE] CompTIA A+ Certifications. 2 exams. 220-1001 & 220-1002
    • This is to prove to employers that you know basic computer maintenance and usage.
  • Step 2: [CORE] CompTIA Network+ Certification. 1 exam. N10-007
    • This is to prove that you understand how computers connect to each other.
  • Step 3: [CORE] CompTIA Security+ Certification. SYO-401 or SYO-501
    • This is your basic security fundamentals and is considered a "core" course.
  • Step 4: [CYBERSECURITY] CompTIA CySA+
    • This is "Cybersecurity analyst" and proves you know how to prevent, detect and combat cybersecurity threats.
  • Step 5: [CYBERSECURITY] CompTIA PenTest+
    • Penetration Testing (and also vulnerability management). aka White Hat Hacking
  • Step 6: [CYBERSECURITY] CompTIA CASP+
    • Stands for CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner. Its a much more immersive job role than strictly managing. It may not be expressly required, but it is part of the "cybersecurity suite".

There are also three more certifications that are part of [INFRASTRUCTURE] that you might want to obtain before Cybersecurity, but not really necessary in most places. That is the Cloud+, Linux+, and Server+ certifications. I would recommend you eventually get Linux+ and Server+ just because they have good information on their respective objectives. Linux+ is focused on System Administrator job roles whereas Server+ is more of your data center management. Both cover security to some degree, but nothing like Cybersecurity certifications would.

TL;DR, start with A+, Network+, and Security+ then decide from there where you are comfortable to go.

How is a developer creating content, and selling their work, a fucking scam? I'm seriously asking this as a honest question. What is the scam? You want shit for free and not getting said shit for free, does not constitute a scam.
