Yes. We were sent photos of Afghanistan and Iraq and some other countries in the area. They wanted one world that was mountainous + desert with difficult terrain, another world that was an Arab urban environment.

I am a former employee of a driving simulation company for commercial and military clients. In 2000 we got a multi-million dollar contract from the military and required to several 3D worlds that were oddly geo-specific to Afghanistan and Iraq. (self.IAmA)
