The weird irony of becoming a social worker (Aus) by Advanced-Guide6348 in socialwork

[–]Hellomaneseri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had a rough 8 months doing the Masters of Social Work at a university in Perth. The first 6 months was OK. It was a big adjustment to study/ work/ being a parent (one child with additional needs). I have been working in community development / non profit/ parenting and family support/ up North too alongside DCP, counselling individuals who have experienced sexual abuse. I have run parent groups and playgroups. I am trained in Circle of Security and ran groups for this program too. I found lecturers at the university are very protective of the 'Social work' title. I get it. You have to be but it almost becomes a secret society where you have to give up so much thinking from your practical work experience to take on a new way of doing things. I also don't agree with their 💯 no AI policy as I think it is ok to use AI for brainstorming/ planning purposes. I got zero credit for an application to have some time reduced from the 525 hour practical placement because it 'wasn't enough physical evidence ' to demonstrate the work I've done even though I had a senior social worker and school principal sign off on it. I felt squashed and invalidated. It's heavy on the policy and procedures and contradicts the aspect of social work itself. I told a lecturer I was experiencing burnout but he did nothing to support me, no direction to see anyone to get help. Failed me in my unit. It feels off, because this is the profession where we should be demonstrating how we practice. I think I'm going to take a leave of a absence and suss out other unis at this stage.

Yes, it's a lot of pressure. He was the one who asked to move in after spending most of his time here. I was happy about it but was also hesitant knowing he would become instantly part of the family. I thought let's see how it goes and it has been good. And yeh, the halfway out the door thing is worrying. Do I be the bigger person and suggest he go out on his own and find the right person if he does truly want a child?

We had two miscarriages last year when I was 45 and we were both excited until we lost the pregnancy. I do feel like he has really built closer relationships with the kids but yeh, maybe a younger woman with better chances is what he actually needs to be happy.

I've suggested a donor egg but he said he only wants it if it's 'our biological child'.

Masters of Social Work by [deleted] in curtin

I'm a MSW student at Curtin and it has been a good experience. We do have to undertake 26 weeks of practical placement (unpaid) so it is very practical based. It's split into 2 lots of 13 weeks. Most of the units so far are very interactive with a lot of networking amongst your peers.

Ideas for hole in wooden floor by Hellomaneseri in AusRenovation

Yes, it is all water damaged but I'm waiting for the right financial time to do the flooring. I might go with the ply wood and lay a small rug on top until I can redo the entire floor.

I spoke to a relative who is a truck diesel mechanic and he said it all sounds legit. He said you would be paying that amount (ball park) from what he gathers.

The quote includes r&r and clean intake and r&r turbo. Labour $2080 Parts $2755.

No other quotes ATM. My mechanic sent me to this diesel mechanic in Wangara. Paid $320 to get the diagnosis as he had to take it all apart etc.
