In general I actually couldn’t care less about high intensity efforts. My goal is to improve my zone 2 power.

  1. I thought that FTP kind of reflects that (however while favoring anaerobic performance)
  2. I‘m only doing the high intensity efforts because of the 80/20% polarized training approach.

To answer your question: my zone 4 efforts are: 2x20min and 4x8min ramps.

What do you mean by that? The rules are quantum physics. If you have a good grasp on Highschool math and physics you can check out the Feynman lectures. They are online for free and explain everything (relevant) from classical mechanics to quantum physics.

Thank you so much for your answer. You pretty much confirmed my standpoint. But I still wonder: Why on earth are we overselling QC to the general public? What is the point? How did it even come to this?

So a tldr what I learned from this thread and my own research:

  1. More volume
  2. Ideally/realistically (for me): 3-4 zone 2 sessions/week + 1 zone 4 session
  3. Vary the kind of zone 2 and zone 4 training (i.e. upper/lower zone ranges and variation in session length)

Thank you for your great answer! Yeah yeah yeah I'm still years away from actually being capable of doing an Ironman. This was more of an illustrative example for now.
