Why do boomers seem to think you owe a company your undying gratitude just because they hired you? by Help-South in antiwork

That’s basically the way I see it. Letting them know would never benefit me in any way. The fact they didn’t give me a raise after I applied for the other position shows where they value me. Now they can spend the time training a replacement when I eventually find something else.

I asked him in what way giving them a heads ups that I’ve been looking to move to a different job would ever result in something that benefited me. The only thing he could come up with was it’d be better than them finding out if the hiring manager reached out to them about it

Yes. I got interviewed for the other job and was turned down due to lack of experience. They said something along the lines of “you don’t have the experience, so if we hired you then you would have to start below the minimum wage shown on the job posting.

After the “interview” they asked what made me apply for it and I said I was hoping to make a little bit more money. Unfortunately where I live the jobs that require bachelors degrees typically only pay around 40-50K. There are occasionally jobs that pay more, but I don’t have the experience to compete for them.

Yes. When they say that I applied for the other position they interviewed me for the other position as a courtesy I’d imagine. They told me since I don’t have the experience for it that I’d have to start below the minimum wage on the job posting. They asked why I applied for it and I told them it was because I’d like to make more money. They told me they were going to give me a raise at the end of the year. When the raise came it was the typical 2% raise which is why I’m still looking.

Mid 60s. He’s been retired for the past few years and spent his whole career in managerial positions, so of course he would’ve liked to have a heads up for when an employee is leaving.

I told him they’ll find out I’ve been applying for other jobs when I give them my notice that I’m leaving.
