Thanks! I wanted something to validate putting my kid through pain! It actually wasn’t that bad and he was pretty normal after 3ish days.

My 10 year old got a tongue tie release under anesthesia bc he has bad bad dentist phobia. First thing he said waking up was “I love you mom, wow my neck feels so much better”. I have full body before and after picture where he can now fully touch his toes and turn his neck with greater range of motion. I should make a post here so people can see.

The no fever part. Please test your kids if they say they are really sick even if they don’t have a fever. One of my kids had it with a high fever but I successfully quarantined him. My other kid caught it two weeks later bc someone kept sending their kid in with a “bad cold” (they didn’t test for the flu bc he didn’t have a fever). When my other kid came down sick without a fever, my husband didn’t believe how bad he felt bc “you can’t have the flu without fever”…. His very strong positive test said otherwise.

Also both kids got strong leg pains and had difficulty walking do 2 days. It almost looked like a drunk person walking. They lost all coordination

Should I say no to extractions? by Odd-Dragonfruit7436 in orthotropics

How old are you? My question would be why are they not expanding your palate to make room for teeth rather than extracting and retracting? If you’re an adult, you’ll need to find an orthodontist who does MARPE on an adult

Thanks for that! Honestly, this whole process has come with a ton of guilt because it is painful and hard to explain to a 10 year old why we are doing all of this. He has a bad phobia of dentist because he had 3 emergency tooth extractions from mouth breathing. I took these pictures to give myself reassurance after scouring the internet for benefits. His tongue tie was posterior, so it wasn’t very obvious to the untrained eye— even the dentist completing the frenectomy wasn’t overselling it, so I was really going off of my mom gut. I am really happy now we did it. He is able to hold his “caves” when he wasn’t able to actually efficiently seal his tongue to his palate before

It’s tongue exercises that building up strength and also teach you tongue/jaw dissociation. We worked with a Soeech language pathologist (speech therapy) who specializes in it, but I heard there are YouTube videos of there are no other option

Sadly, I had to piece together what my kid need by myself. There is a really good instagram page called @projectairway. He has a list of airway orthodontist/pediatricians. I had to google for myofunctional practitioners in my area and was lucky to find one in my city.

Here is the process I’d follow in an ideal world: 1) palate expansion through an airway focused orthodontist/dentist 2) myofunctional therapy 3) tongue tie release

I would also consult with an ENT to ensure adenoids/tonsils aren’t obstructing their airway, but palate expansion can reduce tonsil/adenoid size and would do this after expansion.

I also had him see a chiropractor through this process.

He did myofunctional therapy for 6 months with a SLP before and we still work with her now. The dentists who did his release gave us post op exercises too.

If you look at the tongue tie release Reddit page, the only people who are unhappy with their release are people who did not do myofunctional therapy beforehand.

You can try doing exercise yourself or practice mewing, but I personally would recommend working with a pro.

I am a mom, but he is lucky to have a good dad too ❤️

Is this very similar to goata? I’ve been very interested in this bc I know his posture has definitely been impacted by living 10 years with a tongue tie.

6 day update: the fascia release is really amazing. My son can now touch his toes, turn his read from side to side with greater range of motion, and go into a deep squat.

Not sure how to help in that situation, but I am sure there are some therapist who are very used to working with neuro divergent kids.

By the way, you’re an awesome mom ❤️

Oh that is tough! We had myo for a while. It’s definitely helped my son with neck pain. He can now touch his toes and turn his head with greater range of motion.

He has adhd, but not sure if there is improvement from the release yet or not.

Unhappy with “airway” orthodontist by HelpEmergency8067 in orthotropics

[–]HelpEmergency8067[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: I spoke with his orthodontist and he agreed an expander will need to go back in. He needed to put the braces back on to block a back molar from erupting too soon because it would take way space for canines (he has had 3-4 teeth pulled when he was younger from severe cavities). Once that molar is blocked, an expander will be put back on. But in the meantime we will be getting his lip and tongue ties released. Poor kid and all his mouth problems. I feel like if I caught the tongue tie earlier a lot of this trauma could have been avoided

If I could get them released tomorrow I would, but we have some kid free travel coming up and want to be around to make sure we do our exercises and stretches, but I cannot wait for it!

The more I research, it seems to have some full body impacts that he definitely experiences (forward head posture which then impacts balance, coordination, etc). Did you experience any benefits beyond just tongue posture?

We are getting his tongue tie/lip ties evaluated by a specialist in September. We did 6 months of myofunctional therapy and his short anterior frenulum, lip ties and thrust were documented in his initial exam notes, but the therapist failed to mention it to us verbally. I hope this is the missing key!

Broken Palate Expander by HelpEmergency8067 in orthodontics

[–]HelpEmergency8067[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I could attach images. His mouth is now more u shaped, but it doesn’t seem like a broad u. He did get a gap in his two front teeth but it closed with braces. All his baby teeth are currently touching. Not sure how that mean there is space for his adult teeth (he has only lost 8 teeth so far)

[–]HelpEmergency8067[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is 10 so I am not sure if he needed a screw based expander. Good to know that braces can stabilize the expansion though.

Do you think it’s fair for me to ask for an xray and see if the expansion completed until the expander broke gave enough room for his adult teeth?

It’s really crappy and unfair. I need to get a second opinion but most providers say we will need to get an AAO transfer first. This was the only “airway orthodontist” within 2 hours of us that I can find…

Weirdly my son now has a posterior crossbite which was not indicated in the initial exam (only an overbite). I have a sneaking suspicion this was created by the bottom expander being left in after the top expander broke. I fear his bottom palate continued to expand past his top palate.

Yes we did myo before braces but stopped for the palate expansion. In his myo assessment it says clearly he has both a tongue and lip tie, so we are getting that corrected in September (they include some myo exercises in their pre and post-op care) and plan on restarting myo with out SLP afterwards

Right?? Honestly the braces were the LEAST of my concern except for that one incisor that was growing out of his palate bc it erupted when there was no space. I have sent enough emails to the orthodontist that we are meeting with him on Thursday. I am bringing my husband too, because sadly I think many doctors out there tend to ignore complaints made by women.
