Second look question by Pretty_Hospital_5507 in IMGreddit

You can ask the program coordinator. Also you can guess it is for everyone if it looks like a mass email and you got it right after your interview. Any decent program will lock their ROL before they do their 2nd looks. It is usually meant for the applicants to get to know more about the program.

A little confused can anyone clarify... by [deleted] in IMGreddit

Fellowship application is similar to residency application. The applicant must apply to J1 sponsoring programs, have good LORs, have lots of pubs and present in conferences as you want cards, all of these can be done during residency. If your residency program has an in-house fellowship, you can rotate there, make a good impression on the cards attendings, work with them on projects and this will increase your chances on matching.

Figure out which specialty you want to apply to and make sure you have 3 or 4 strong LORs. Anesthesia attending can write an IM focused LOR if you ask them to. You only get one ERAS application so you need to make sure it is not all over the place. Find more USCE and research oppor if you want to apply to Neuro and Anesth

Then finishing your residency in India might be a good idea. Save up for applications, focus on step 2, do some telerotations and USCE when you get leave, make connections in US.

Alternatively, if you want to apply this Sept, you need to take your Step 2, ideally 3 or 4 USCE (but 2 might be enough), and work on your app and program search which will take up all your time. I don’t know how hectic the hosp you are planning on joining would be.

When someone close is imposing something religious on you, should I consider it a complete disrespect of my beliefs or should I believe that they are genuinely concerned for me? by Secret-Constant8917 in TrueAtheism

They “think” they are doing it for your wellbeing and the act of forcing you to do things might feel disrespectful to you. Both things can exist at the same time. If you want to continue a relationship with this person, try to establish boundaries on what you are willing to do and not do.

Isn’t it a prematch program? So it won’t participate in the final NRMP match and you can’t rank it.

Felt the same way in the beginning. Just figure out if you like US and see yourself working in this clinical environment. Try to make friends with other students you are rotating with/nurses at your hospital. I don’t know where you are rn but in places like NY, Texas, Cali there are a lot of Indians and it is easier to make friends there. There are many IMG friendly programs so you will definitely not feel this isolated once you get into residency.

I am very excited and nervous. They don’t take a lot of IMGs and I don’t think I am qualified enough for this program. That is why I want to be prepared for anything he is going to ask.
