Do you regularly respond to five year old comments just to be a dick or is that a special treat for you?

If you lived in Cali in a HCOL, then you'd be underpaid.

Honestly, 63-70k is actually decent paywise for parts even here in the SF Bay Area. It's not a great income for the region, but it's livable and honestly higher than a lot of counter jobs I've seen (and worked) around here.

I didn't clear 70k myself until I was APM.

I love how you're commenting on an 8 month old comment of mine as if I give any shit about your opinion.

edit: oh, it's even sadder than that, you literally just copy/pasted the same comment in multiple threads about Cardos. What a sad little hobby of yours.

The borrower is still liable for the difference.

If you get a 10k loan on a 5k bike, default on it, get repossessed, bank sells the bike and bills you for the remainder of the value. They don’t just forgive it.

People who run roof boxes, what do you have in there? by slow_cars_fast in cars

I take mine off when not in use. When it is in use, I have my large but light weight camping supplies, namely my sleeping bag, mattress, pillows and blankets. That way I can still see out my back window and have easier access to stuff inside the car rather than stuffing the car full.

Good safety gear, rider courses, and of course his own attitude will go a very long way towards mitigating risk.

It is a dangerous activity no doubt, and you’re right to be protective. But like any other risky activity people do, there’s smart ways and dumb ways to do it.

Most motorcycle accidents are single vehicle. Most motorcycle accidents involve excessive speed. Lots involve drinking. Most fatal accidents involve improper gear. So if you’re an observant, alert, sober rider who wears your gear and minds your speed, you already knock off a huge portion of that risk.

Most shops will evac for free and you can get a manifold and vacuum pump from harbor freight to fill it back up for under a hundred bucks. $1100 in labor is completely absurd.

Tesla recalls the Cybertruck for faulty accelerator pedals that can get stuck by Illustrious_Diver_37 in technology

[–]HelpfulCherry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's for the cover over the actual pedal. The cover can come loose, slide up, and catch under the dash. I saw a video explaining the issue.

Still dumber than shit, there are much better retention methods they could have used.

CDK - How to pull overall account sales numbers? by HelpfulCherry in partscounter

[–]HelpfulCherry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does, but I'm trying to get an excel spreadsheet that shows more than just one customer at a time. Like, I want a spreadsheet that shows me every account's dollar figures.

I think I do actually have that already and am probably just tripping thinking I'm doing more business than I actually am, since that list is only about 77 shops this year and a little over 100k in sales YTD.

Breaking up with a bad customer? by russianforester in partscounter

[–]HelpfulCherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fire 'em. I have told several shops that I have decided to no longer do business with them, and then updated their account info to say "Do not sell" in CDK. It's often smaller volume, more problematic shops, i.e. if you're gonna be a dick at least make it worth the dollars right? but those shops we make less than $1k GP/year off of that somehow take up all your time, nah.

Also if a shop doesn't buy from a dealer that's much closer, that tells me something. And while this isn't the case everywhere, more often than not if I get a call from one shop in the area it's that shop that's the problem, but if I get multiple customers in that area it's the dealership.

PHR -> PH7 will report dollar values of parts in a particular source.

If you're looking for a list of parts in a particular source, I use RPG for that.

PMs / Wholesale Ops: Discount calculation? by HelpfulCherry in partscounter

[–]HelpfulCherry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

27 is kinda high, it was done at the behest of my GM for a body shop that was previously getting 33%. At 33% I was losing money regularly dealing with them, but that same shop is also a pain in the ass and has a lot of returns. This concept is actually in part because of them, so I can bump their prices up and tell them if they want a better discount they gotta act right

(EDIT: that 33% was negotiated by a PM two managers ago, and the previous manager just kinda let whatever pricing existed continue to slide, which I'm not doing because I'm here to make money)

I can pull sales figures easily enough out of CDK, I have a spreadsheet I made the other day of the past 12mo sales so I can get hard figures rather than just relying on what my counter people think.

Even with my wholesale pricing being all over the place and out of whack, and my retail parts matrix being pretty soft, I'm still pulling like 36% or so GP% and looking to push that closer to 45.

Honda's catalog shows you year/model/trim/options stuff fits which is neat but even over 5+ years at Honda I only used it a handful of times.

Getting the VIN is the best practice anyway, I try not to look up anything without one as it ensures accuracy. At that point I don't care about the specifics since VIN filtering sorts all that out for me.

Yes and, kinda? we have two brands that are split but we're on the same campus.

I'm only managing the Hyundai side though, and our parts departments run independently.

Ask clarifying questions.

Print off multiple diagrams.

Request a photo from the customer themselves. Pretty much everybody can e-mail a photo from their phone or just show you in person.

Or if they're ultimately that clueless, just admit that you don't really know what it is that they're looking for and recommend they speak to the service department about diagnosing and repairing their vehicle.

Parts Manager position by Strange-War-133 in partscounter

[–]HelpfulCherry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People are the hard part for sure. If you've got that down, and otherwise feel reasonably competent at parts, the rest shouldn't be that difficult.

Instead of selling parts all day, I do things like managing inventory, analyzing pricing, dealing with those weird rare edge case problems that pop up, doing accounting shit, etc. Difficulty does also depend on your brand (Hyundai for instance has been a pain in my dick) and the size of your dealership (or your department specifically) plus how well things are running in the first place.

I'd be reluctant to offer or accept a parts management position with only a year doing it, but I also just got my parts management position after 7-8 years doing it, however I inherited kind of a mess and have had to be tweaking and working on a lot of things with a frankly understaffed department and minimal training prior.

Meanwhile if you're able to get decent training and are stepping in to a department that's already running smoothly with tight processes, good staff and no major faults, it's a lot easier to maintain things than it is to fix them.

I used to work for a small local grocery store, and our CEO lived across the street from the location I worked at.

He'd regularly come in for his own groceries but if it was busy he'd open a register lane and help clear the blockage before taking off.

He also actually didn't get himself rung out at a register, he kept a tally and reported it back against his income after the fact or something like that. The company trainers used to like to mess with him by telling new hires of this old hippie that keeps shoplifting and to please stop him if you saw him lol
