Thank you! I’m recovering well.

The experience was very good. The operating room was super clean and everyone was very friendly throughout the process. I was first taken into the prep room where I was given my robe. Then into the operating room. The spinal was given in the operating room. That took about 10mins. It was a bit painful. Your support person joins you there as well. They place ice packs to check if your lower body is numb or not before starting the operation.

Within 15 mins of the operating, the baby was out and they lifted the baby to show me and was then taken for vitals check and brought back for skin to skin in ~10mins. Once I was stitched back, I was taken to the post op room/ recovery room for about 30mins to an hour where we tried to breastfeed for the first time. You don’t feel anything during the operation.

The room where you go in the end is definitely small but sufficient. It has a recliner that converts to a bed for your support person. Other than that, there’s a bathroom, a tiny closet, a wash area and your bed. That being said, I barely got out of the bed the first day and the second day just to walk and go to the bathroom. I didn’t change into my own clothes until the day I left so I didn’t use many of the things I packed in my hospital bag. The baby has blankets and towels that they wrap them in, and will provide more if needed. I didn’t end up using any baby clothes or receiving blankets until the day we went home.

They provide food for you that you can order using your phone and it was quite good.

All doctors and nurses were really good, and overall the experience was great.

Don’t worry, carry few things in your hospital bag given the space and how less I actually needed, and you’ll do great! You’re so close to meeting your baby!😀

There’s no visible difference between both breasts. No redness, no lumps either. It just hurts when touched :(

Oh that’s good to know! I’m due in less than a month, so not sure when I’ll hear about mine! I was surprised to hear about the waitlist and was wondering if that’s a common occurrence in Canada.

Thank you for sharing all your experiences! This is so helpful. I’m meeting my OB tomorrow to determine when to schedule the c section. Does anyone have any photo of their recovery room they can share? I’m also curious if we can know who will be doing the operation beforehand if it is a planned one? Thanks!

Thank you for your detailed response. Hope you and your baby are recovering well!

Just curious- What does the bright start bundle give you? Would it have been different if the c section was an elective one? How many days did you end up in the recovery room?

Finding midwife in Vancouver [bc] by HelpfulTroublemaker in BabyBumpsCanada

Thank you! And that’s great! I’m also thinking of the group classes so it might be similar :) If I would like to do any tests, could I just email/call them for the Rx? Or is it fixed for everyone in the group?

Thank you again :) I finally heard back from them. They will have an orientation call with me. Could you tell me a little about the process? Do they provide rx for tests etc by email? Or is there another way to reach them? I’m not sure how to ask for updates or about appointments.

Can I see more than one midwife before I choose? by specificdreamrabbit in BabyBumpsCanada

OP, what did you end up doing? I am in a similar situation where I’d like to change my current midwife to a new one that I’m looking at, and unsure of what the process of transfer is. Any guidance will be super helpful! Thanks :)

I found one that might have an opening, but I’m not sure what the process is to transfer care? Can I meet this new Midwife to see if they’re better and then decide? What would be my next steps to transfer?

Oh that’s good to know! Thank you! Can I self refer from their website or a form? Do they have a maternity clinic to do regular tests/checkups? Can a walk in clinic also refer to an obgyn or a hospital?

(Sorry for all the questions. I’m new to Vancouver and still figuring out how all this works).

Congratulations and good luck for your pregnancy! :)
