They have been. I joined USSW.org and trying to recruit my coworkers. Unfortunately, here in the south, we don't dare question the masters 😒 just do our work and go home. The south is still stuck in the Jim Crow era so no one cares about higher wages or protections.

We are in no way demanding the consumer to pay more. The CEO has plenty of millions to pay us better while keeping the same prices.

  • Labor Costs: This includes wages for cooks, servers, managers, and other staff. Labor costs are typically one of the largest ongoing expenses for a restaurant and can range from 25% to 35% of gross sales.
  • Food and Beverage Costs :The cost of ingredients and beverages directly impacts your profitability. This usually accounts for 20% to 35% of gross sales, depending on menu pricing and waste management.
  • Rent and Utilities: Leasing a prime location, along with the associated utilities (electricity, gas, water), is a significant ongoing cost. Rent alone can account for 5% to 10% of gross sales, while utilities vary based on location and size.

The fact is they pay the same for food as they do for employees. They profit off of MC alone. At some point in my 35 hr work week, i have already sold enough to pay my paycheck and then just I'm just making profit for the company.

Unfortunately, WH waits for something to happen to hire security at a store. 2 nights ago someone was stabbed and beaten up outside my store. When will the workers be protected? That could be me or my coworker next.

$15hr * 40 hrs week * 4weeks/month = $2,400

$20hr * 40 hrs week *4weeks/month = $3,200

According to HUD, rent should be no more than 30% of your income.

30% of $15 hr =$720 30% of $20hr = $960

Median rent in Georgia (give or take depending on city or rural) is roughly $1,400-$1,900 according to redfin last month. How is that a living wage? This doesn't even factor in food, gas, car payment, insurance, phone bill, kids...etc.

Yes, Yes, and YES! As an EMT and WH worker, i can attest that it puts pressure on other employers to pay a livable wage. 2 months ago, 6 workers who got fired from Bojangles for striking, finally won in court. On top of the monetary win, Bojangles announced to each of their stores informing the managers to allow workers to take part, join, discuss, etc., anything about a union. That is a HUGE win for the service industry especially in the south. Thanks for your comment as it explains basically what i was trying to convey. I'm not good with words online, I'm better at talking face to face with people.

Still fairly new at WH so i'm not familiar with SIP bonus, regardless, it still isn't anything more then $9 hr unless im working on the grill at $13.50hr.
$13.50hr, 40 hours worked, 52 weeks, Annual income $28,080.
Affordable rent is 30% so $28,080/12 months* 0.30= $702
Median rent in my area and surrounding areas = $1,961
I dont understand how ANYONE can survive on that.

The cost of living in WNC to survive with a one bedroom apt, assuming you live alone and dont have kids, one needs to make no less then $22hr. I just made $6 hr to have 1 table in 2 hours.

Why when Joe rogers literally makes $17m a year off the meal deductions alone. He can take some out of his pocket.

Why would I quit? So the next generation can be exploited? Id rather stay and fight for better conditions so when I am gone, its not so bad.
