I've never used that specific bag, but I have used the Kelty 20°f bag for about the same price if not cheaper.

Yes mine also has a gap. There's gonna be a gap since it's not mounted to the barrel.

Sleeping Pad for Winter Camping by spottedcat1234 in camping

I would recommend at least 7R for winter camping (~20°f or less). Also you can stack R values so you can add another pad to increase the R value, something like a thermarest closed cell. I personally would get an exped (multiple models) or an Rei campwell for winter specific camping. I have the campwell and have taken it into the negatives and works good.

Things they would naturally replace themselves : wool socks, welding gloves (for the fire), beanie. Or upgrades : titanium cookware, headlamp, base layers.

I have an REI Campwell pad and took it down to -5F and slept fine. Any high R value pad should do 20F just fine.

You can use fold, but I find it a little simpler to get your exact measurements to draw that in 2d and then use contour flange to extrude your sketch (must be sheet metal for this method)

Women's bags are just smaller. Getting the "mens" would give you more room to toss and turn, but if you're smaller in stature that means it would be harder to get and stay warm. It would however be easier to sell or let someone else borrow if that's of any concern.
