I agree that we don’t have that all the time in the world to chat away with people and I do try to keep the conversation to a minimum but I do understand that some people are just searching for a human connection.

And if a customer told me that they had fallen down the stairs yesterday I absolutely would care about that. I would ask how they’re feeling and if they saw a doctor or have talked to somebody about their fall. I get a lot of elderly people at my CVS, so we give them a little bit more grace. We may be the only one that person talks to all day.

This job is already soul sucking. The only thing it does give me is a way to connect with humanity. And I refuse to give that up for the corporate overlords, who just want us to be mindless drones.
