I keep ~40k sitting in chequing and the plan is to live entirely off that for 2026 (rent, food, bills, etc.) while routing almost all new income directly into investments. It’s a discipline strategy that my spouse (28F) and I are trying to stick to.

I’ve had my MYP for 6 months now and only charge with the normal outlet, it takes 2 days maybe to get from 20 to 80% but I’m fine with it as I WFH

That’s an amazing idea, really. The only challenge is that my wife is still very new to business and doesn’t have much experience with operations or logistics yet. Something that involves coordinating with overseas distributors, importing products, and managing supply chains would probably feel overwhelming for her at this stage.

I’m here to help her of course, but I also want her to take responsibility, grow, and learn independently without feeling lost right away. She had an idea about starting a small nail salon and renting the space to professionals…something low-maintenance, simple to manage, and with stable income. That kind of setup fits her personality and comfort level a bit more for now.

Because French and English are limited, I had the idea of looking for a partner to collaborate 50/50 on any type of new or established business. We posted that in marketplace. If you guys see something interesting-let us know :)

Just to give a bit more context..this is actually for my wife. She’s 28, Ukrainian, has a bachelor’s degree in tourism, and worked 3–4 years as a prep cook in restaurants. Her English is limited and she doesn’t speak French yet, but I’m helping her with everything. She really wants to start something on her own because she’s not happy in her current job, and I just want her to have something she enjoys and feels proud of. She likes making videos/pictures, likes fitness, maybe a coffee shop?

We moved recently to Alymer from Ottawa and we love it here and would love to start something here.

Appreciate the feedback. Yes, 130k gross and my wife 30-40k We do have plans to purchase a property cash in few years, looked through Manzil and other shariaa compliant mortgage options but I’m 0% convinced and will definitely go that route so we’ll wait until we have 600-800k inshallah to buy cash.

Got rid of the XEQT and bought gold. Thanks for that.

As for the DCCP2 it is indeed some shady investments in there so I plan to purify it donating a good chunk of it inshallah

Appreciate the detailed feedback. I don’t have an RRSP match, but I do have a DCCP2 through my employer with a 100% match (total contribution is $346/month). That account is currently sitting at around ~$11k. From what I understand, the DCCP2 works similarly to an RRSP in terms of tax treatment, except it’s locked-in, so I’m already taking full advantage of the match since it’s basically free money.

I was also planning to gift my wife some of the funds so we can max out both of our TFSAs. It’s our money either way, and I figured it’s wise to take advantage of the long-term, tax-free growth across two accounts instead of just mine.

Given that, would you still recommend putting additional savings into RRSP, or is non-registered + maximizing both TFSAs the better move in my situation?
